ModeratorIt is built off 2.0 and should have been patched, however, I and also LYS has still had the disappearing item bug occur still, maybe modding it somehow affected it? Anyways, that sounds reasonable to do, BUT, that means I will need to remove the unansha-able check off of other officers… he may just have to be ansha-able. Will lower INT too and see what you think.

Moderatorthankfully, wu invasion was fairly low agility, so cemain was easy to keep up. a dozen power pills later and jingzhou is
liu beilu bu's once again!the liu bei dialog just after lu bu chewed him out doesn't quite flow correctly. it still has lots of original text which… doesn't… quite chime with being berated by lu bu. ie: after the 'dont wanna be like you' spiel.
so far so good, time to go see if zhou yu is still a pita.
ps
some hindsight – i took out the wizards to talk to swordsmith before taking chengdu.

ModeratorQuote:Saw the castle north that couldn't be reached quite yet, was very curious hehehe. This is for a possible future update, it is blocked off atm since it has rebel forces with 50,000+ troops there O_o
Quote:it's a tad odd given the typical story / history, but in a 'rise of lu bu' mod, i have no real qualms with it. He does have higher INT than Zhao Yun, which is amusing :). It's kind of handy to have him with high INT, particularly since I'm looking for a casual yet interesting game… and many DOE mods up the difficulty resulting in a lot of save file restarts or save state battles. I have yet to get into late game, so dunno how it'll turn out.I have play tested the battles a lot myself so as to make them VERY difficult but not so much that a player will have to resort to uber-save state hacking.
Quote:re: yan yan / beat shortcut before or after luoi… honestly can't recall. trying to recall how the game flow went, i ran into the shortcut… not sure if i beat it or died. if i died, i didn't come back until after taking the camp just after ore mountain. i just can't recall
Found the reason for this bug. Yan yan was just involved in too many battles. His role has been reduced which should fix the bug of multi-yan yans. Also slightly tweaked his int, 215 just seemed a tad on the high side.
Quote:re: zhuge liang fightI believe I was using Guard at the time and just whittled him down (yay for a high INT enemy without wanfu!).
Knew Wan Fu would be overtly annoying and wouldnt make the fight even possible. Kind of like when I gave Zhang Jue Yan Re, I tried a dozen times to beat it before just changing it hehe.
Quote:i now gotta take back jingzhou. fights there are much harder than chengdu… which is a change from the game flow of the original heh. not sure which direction i'll go first, prolly take out the wu invaders first…. i'll have to look at my tacticians again and decide a proper route. This has been the hardest part about the mod and I would say in general. Making 'progressive' difficulty while still keeping it fresh has been very difficult to do without totally gimping the game and flow.
Quote:ps – do enjoy the alternate rebel forces during scripted fights :3. oh, and not sure if doe2.0 had it or if you added it, but thanks for keeping the idea of being able to billet guan/zhang sons.As do I, theyre all mostly a recent addition inspired by the White Riders of Gongsun Zan, there are over a half a dozen new "generic" type forces during special fights throughout the game which seemed to add more spice to an otherwise slaughterfest of those wimpy rebel forces who were essentially place holders.
Quote:the liu bei dialog just after lu bu chewed him out doesn't quite flow correctly. it still has lots of original text which… doesn't… quite chime with being berated by lu bu. ie: after the 'dont wanna be like you' spiel.hehe, this was done when I first started the mod just to see if the idea would work. I havent tinkered with it much since no one really seemed to care, thus far (thanks unfy!), but I can take a look into it now ;)
I left Xing and Bao billetable as they are there in the case someone decides not to get the other officers in the game (dont know how or why?) but anyways yeah, they are still decent for the time you get them, just thought most people would want the fresh new officers like the awesome Fa Zheng :D

Quote:I have play tested the battles a lot myself so as to make them VERY difficult but not so much that a player will have to resort to uber-save state hacking.there have been a few mods out there that usually ended up with me resorting to save state'ing the start of every round of combat :(. it's enjoyable to play a doe mod that's still a challenge but doesn't require perfect rng.
Quote:zhuge wan fu / jue yan reeither of those would have been *way* too much heh. although a jue with something like da re… to make him a one hit wonder ? nah – it's still early in the game, somewhat easy is more than acceptable.
Quote:This has been the hardest part about the mod and I would say in general. Making 'progressive' difficulty while still keeping it fresh has been very difficult to do without totally gimping the game and flow.that's a struggle all rpg makers deal with … and the thing the players notice the most. so far, so good!
Quote:Xing and Bao billetableJust took Wu Castle (with Zhuge Jin in it). My Lvl38 party is Zhao Yun, Meng Huo, Ling Tong, Zhang Bao, Lu Bu, Zhuge as tactician, and li hui hanging along for the ride. Now that I've taken Wu, I'll prolly try to see if I can scrounge up some more Wu tacticians.
Fa Zheng and Pang Tong have been tempting, and…. i'll prolly need to re-look at Xing's soldier counts to see if he's workable or not. With so many quality generals abounding, I've found myself gravitating towards the higher agility ones…. as well as mostly being able to just pound my way through areas. Hell, I wonder what guan ping and mi zhu are up to after all this time :3
With the game progressing more towards tacticians as is usual, we'll see how the rest of wu and some wei goes.

edit: just looked at fa zheng / mi zhu / guan ping / pang tong … soldier counts are entirely too low to be useful. i'll prolly stick with my party like it is for a while heh.

I resisted the urge to make Fa Zheng and Pang Tongs soldiers upgrade-able but their INT essentially protects them from tactics so formation is key to use them through Wu. I have actually used them through most of Wu before you start getting officers with low HP mangled.
Am going to upgrade shortly if I can get his next semi-major update to work. It involves a battle that those who have already started will NOT be able to access since I am using battles pointers from the Hua Xiong battle (ie: you have already beaten it, so the replacement battle wont appear).
That is, unless someone knows some code I can use to respawn battles…
Edit: Poor guan ping and mi zhu… I thought giving ping upgrades would be an interesting change, but figured they would get dumped before too long anyways

ModeratorThis battle would occur AFTER you defeat the end boss and is one of MULTIPLE BONUS endgame battles. I actually have another which I haven't tried beating atm, but info on that starts in Jin/New Luo Yang.
Here is a little spoiler of what the battle would have been, but I might edit soldier counts a bit. Again, you would need to restart a new game to access this.
Will update this shortly.

ModeratorUpdated link!
1. Lu Bu's Int. has been significantly lowered for latter parts of the game.
2. Additional-brand-spankin-new-bonus-ENDGAME-battle (sorry youll have to restart your game for it to take effect)
3. Some slight additonal officer rebalancing
4. No more Chang An gate battle. Oh come on, like it was useful anyways!
This is what is in the Yuan Shao un-accessable area atm. Gives like 175,000 exp after the battle though hehe

ModeratorMiDKnighT, here are those portraits.
If you can
A. download the updated mod
B. Expand the ROM
C. Input the portraits in the expansion section, thatd be great :D
D. Does Niahaks Editor read portraits from the expansion section or am I going to have to hex each one in?
I would do more but gotta pick up my wife for a halloween church thing tonight, so I'll have to finish more pics later. Just repost whatever you manage to get
October 31, 2011 at 8:40 pm #39105MiDKnighT
ModeratorI expanded the ROM and loaded the strip but after a DoaEditor check it looks like the pics didn't come out right:
I suspect something is wrong with the bmp format. Checking…
EDIT: OK it's fixed after I decreased the color depth to 4 in infranview and re-loaded. Here ya go:
http://www.4shared.com/file/ndQcdXSd/lubu.html
I can also add any of the other strips from:
http://www.4shared.com/file/VvWxcsbu/Portraits.html
Just lemme know which ones.

ModeratorOut of curiosity, is there any reason to have 340 portraits when the game only has 256 slots for officers?

ModeratorQuote:Out of curiosity, is there any reason to have 340 portraits when the game only has 256 slots for officers? In case at some point we have 340 portraits worth of 'strips' to load and you decide to pick and choose which pics you want? If we had super smarticles later at some point we could do something crazy like have a character alternate portraits. Guan Yu is happy…Guan Yu is mad!!!

ModeratorOr Guan yu is constipated X_x
Thanks for getting that, gonna see how they turned out in game :)
Edit:Hey these turned out great! Well, there are a few pictures that have a big black dot in a random spot… wonder how that happened hehe. I'll have to make a few adjustments on those apparently.
