That IS possible, but definitely not normal. The rebels in their group might have differentiated numbers so they probably weren't identical.
Quote:Diao Chan… She is awesome! Great way to introduce her, and she played a role of a white mage (good old FF) in my party for several chapters! This finally freed up Zhang Liao to open up his can of whoop ass (up until this point he was primarily a support character casting Protect/Haste/Heal etc.) When encountered, I Sent down the traitorous Hou Cheng.yeah, it was a way I felt to not make the party of Lu Bu and Zhang Liao duo too overpowerful, I had to cut out all other support characters, but actually that was probably pretty realistic for Lu Bu's force as well up until Chen Gong.
Quote:The Liu Chan clone was great! …Huo Hu almost made the cut but Chan won out.Liu Chan? and you cut out Huo Hu!? You better not mention that around here as Huo Hu is considered a god around lys forums :P
Quote:Xia Pi… Holy Cow… I understand why you did this… This is his end… but WOW! The no namers in this region are brutal and the castle battle wiped me out. I grinded to level 15 (when I received Recover) and tried again. After a few more attempts I greased out and won. Musou, Blaze… Shudder… Chen Gui did not make the cut.Of all the impossible fights, yeah, I figured this one would make the most sense.
Quote:Possible bug…Zhang Fei was mentioned during the Inn scene. LOL! Lu Bu in chains? I’d like to see them try Wahahahahaha!Okay, now THAT is a bug so I'll change that.
Quote:I imagine you put the fixed troop limit on Chen Gong to prevent shenanigans later (probably too early to have wicked tacticians blazing their way to victory in the next chapter.)Yep, I've found that static-tizing high INT officers troop counts prevents them from becoming a keeping them forever. Lots of mods have issues where you only swap out the dumb guys for stronger ones and keep the super INT guys always so it creates a little more interest in other characters in the game.
Quote:Another bug I caught was facing my daughter in the Zhang Fei battle in Shao's chapter. I imagine it's suppossed to be Liu Bei (which would make the battle tougher…). I'll get to work on my in depth chapter 3 experience in a bit! Wahahahahaha!Ah yes, that is a bug, it's supposed to be Liu Bei.
Edit: New version uploaded w/ text change and Lu Lingqi battle changed to Liu Bei

And yeah… Huo Hu was cut. I get my powder from Wei Yan LOL!
Lu Bu, Gao Shun, Zhang Liao and Dong Zhuo were locks. So… It was Huo Hu or Diao Chan. I did prefer Huo Hu's stats (OK Strength and good Int) and he had more troops at the time. However, Diao Chan had both Protect and Haste (Huo Hu did not). If I used Hu I'd have had Liao acting as my support character :(

Revenge battle was pretty sweet. Jia Xu was my first target to limit his damage and as a result Guo Si and Li Jue killed a couple people with well-timed crits.
The castle battles for the rest of the chapter were comparatively much easier (especially compared to Xia Pi and somewhat to Chang’An). I’m sure this is your intention as Yuan Shu was all talk. The random encounters with Liu Ye were challenging (Terror and Shock) but with your TP regeneration in battle were manageable. Wound up recruiting him to get him out of my life. ALMOST replaced Diao Chan with him.
Gate Battle before castle battle was pretty easy (none of the antagonists had any good tactics). Castle battle consisted of Lu Bu dueling Ji Ling, Haste and some Blazing.
Possible Bug – Yuan Shu mentions Zhang Fei.
Possible Bug – Encountered and recruited Liu Ye again while looking for generals in the region after the Yuan Shu battle. So… 2 Liu Ye’s I have.
Lu Fan was tempting, but I kept Diao Chan.
Overall this is a short concise chapter. We need these once in a while.

What I did was prevent Liu Ye from being recruited so this way he wont spawn again if the player has him.
Quote:Possible Bug – Yuan Shu mentions Zhang Fei.Fixed that in new version

I found with my earlier mod releases that making the game super hard with every fight a super challenging fight
A. Made normally challenging fights non-unique so they weren't particularly MORE interesting in comparison with other battles, just another battle that was impossible.
B. Players did like the reprieve of being able to chug through certain chapters and just being able to "Hulk SMASH" guys a little but, but even too much of that presented the same issue. I actually remember doing a playthrough of the original DOAE going All-Out against every boss and I won almost every time, so it was pretty strategy-lacking.

Terror was useful for your ambush.
Went to the cave and was pleased to find an upgrade for Chen Gong. Normally I would have taken out Diao Chan, but she had quite had double his troops and serves a support role. Party consists of Lu Bu, Zhang Liao, Gao Shun, Diao Chan and Hua Xin (Level 23 at this point. I gathered money for the new goodies available in the weapon shop).
Bohai – Zhao Yun is a BEAST and he should be. His high agility was extremely difficult to deal with. My first encounter involved him going first with a Musou and he one hit killed Diao Chan and Hua Xin. Party was wiped out by the 2nd turn. Challenging fight, but he is a Tiger.
I loved Bo Hai! I was not expecting the new strategist Good thing he talked to us before Cao Cao (Good for him and us). And…. POWERPILLS!!! Wahahahahahaha! Game over man!
Nice cave! Wasn’t expecting that and made me keep pushing forward rather than just running back to the nearest town (To heal and/or dump a chud) Ji Ling has a strange taste in women. After some thinking new party was Lu Bu, Zhang Liao, Ji Ling, Diao Chan, Mi Heng (I saw Ji Ling as a superior replacement to Gao Shun. Shun did serve me well though.)
Nice surprise after the Yuan Brothers fight! I had to teach my daughter a lesson for dating Zhang Fei. I saw that you fixed that bug! Zhang Fei required tactics due to his high AC (a cool curveball).
Possible Bug – It was at this point that I noticed that Lu Bu had 2 less AC then everybody else despite being equipped with the same stuff as everyone else.
On the way to finish off the Yuan family I visited the cave. Most of the weapons were outdated (Spears and such that were found in the cave’s normal location in Yuan Shu’s territory).
Possible Bug – On the way out I was warped to Yuan Shu’s territory (where the cave was originally at).
Boss fight was pretty tough with tactics such as shock from Yuan Shao, Zhen Ji, and Tian Feng. Died a couple times, but again it’s a big fight. Power Pills are my friend.
Awesome Mod! I have just started Chapter 5, so I’ll take notes on that one and a few others and update with a summary later!

Ce Mian and Bei Ji (with Power Pills) later on just made the game a sleep walk.

The armor thing might have to due with there are two hex codes for some equipment in the game, essentially making two different versions. The armor he may have been equipped with probably came with the alternate version in a treasure chest, but I have no idea what item that would be, also, displayed AC is not necessarily an indicator of actual armor defense value as the actual AC and displayed AC are stored in two completely different places. Essentially, they aren't linked at all if that makes sense.
In regards to weapons, if I let players have access to Bow's too early they would just wreck the Yuan Shao area. I believe that there are Tridents for sale in Bo Hai? I could be wrong.
Quote:Possible Bug – On the way out I was warped to Yuan Shu’s territory (where the cave was originally at). There are different places in the code for exits and entrances. I'll have to fix that.

Yeah, like I said earlier, the more important battles needed to be tougher and I wanted to prevent people from doing the Jing Zhou conquering first then mauling Yuan Shao. Glad you're enjoying the mod thus far and that the 2 years of work has paid off :finger:
September 4, 2013 at 8:50 pm #39415Shingen01ParticipantI'm almost done with Wu! I'll probably wrap up the game soon, so I'll give a final summary! Whose mod should I go after next? Wahahahahahaha!

*sigh*

September 5, 2013 at 10:25 pm #39417sonic.penguinModeratorQuote:Whose mod should I go after next? Wahahahahahaha!Well, I could just plug my own, Rise of Ieyasu or Flames of Wu. Granted, there are some other good ones out there like the Yuan Shao's Revenge or I'd almost go to say the Yuan Shu mod but I feel that it needs a lot of "cleaning up" in a number of ways, but it's still alright.
If you feel like waiting a year or so, Jin Xuan Conqueror of Worlds is coming out!
September 6, 2013 at 9:23 pm #39418Shingen01ParticipantChapter 5 – Jing Zhou
First thing I noticed is that regular soldiers pack a punch (a good thing I think). Our conqueror of worlds was defeated with Terror (or rather his poor innocent pet LOL).
Chang Sha – Elite Bowmen in this chapter can be BRUTAL. Terror and Blast are made for them (I was actually happy to see Han Xuan take up one of their slots). I was worried about Huang Zhong being overpowered, but great job fixing his troops (made him good for the rest of the chapter but little else. I think it helps the game to be switching generals in and out throughout). Wei Yan was sent back due to low INT (He played a factor later though).
Gui Yang – Our old friend’s crossbow attack… very brutal. Had a party wiped, but had my revenge when Zhang Liao (This guy is an all-star and stayed with me throughout the WHOLE game) set off terror.
The rest of Jing Zhou was pretty easy…. Then the Pang Tong replacement… WOW!!! Cool surprise. I figured I’d deal with him… later…
The Ma brothers are cool, but I wish they had more troops so they would be usable in the Shu campaign (I was level 29 and had a bunch more troops). I Went with Lu Bu, Wei Yan, Zhang Liao, Ji Ling and Yang Hu (Huang Zhong served his purpose). I did not encounter any new bugs in this section.
Awesome work! I finished the game, and will keep pimping out my notes of the playthrough.

I might cry if you make me do Nagashino though, but Katsuyori was always such a tool.

September 7, 2013 at 3:33 am #39421Shingen01ParticipantChapter 6 – Shu Invasion
Surprise battle was manageable (Zhang Liao with Terror is very powerful).
Nanman have low INT but their high AGI makes things VERY interesting.
Fushui – Thank God for the new equipment. Having a 140AP for the party might be a tad powerful at this point, but it doesn’t break the game. Our old acquaintance in the castle is a great addition (a Diao Chan on Huo Hu Powder). His text when he joins is perhaps a little clunky however.
“If I go with you, perhaps I can end the pain of the people that you cause.”
It might be a little clearer if it was something like, “If I go with you, perhaps I can end the pain that you cause the people.”
I like what you did with Ma Chao (The Huang Zhong Effect). He’s great for the rest of the chapter. I dumped Meng Huo.
After Mian Zhu I was able to pick up my 2nd steed. Cheng Du was INSANE!!!! The head strategist murdered me with Barrage… After a few tries (and many… many powerpills) I squeaked out a victory. I recruited Shamoke in random encounter. His high troop count was tempting but I quickly switched him out with the new guys in Jing Zhou.
I did encounter 1 glitch. I wound up after buying/selling equipment (In Cheng Du) with 400ish/800ish TP. I loaded a savestate and this did not reoccur.
