Shingen01Participant
Is it Mitsuhide with the large number of troops? If so, I remember having to have him defect via the Lu Bu method. That makes the battle possible to win. This mod (as have most of them on this site) are incredible to play!
Shingen01ParticipantWhat would really be cool is you could somehow have the assassins show up as NPC’s in some of the towns (Like Chang An). For example one of the townsman could say, “Wang Yun: Oh… Don’t worry Prime Minister… Diao Chan will be all yours…”
Shingen01ParticipantHere are the notes of my playthrough!
Cool link to Lu Zhi and Huangfu Song. Mighty Dong gets to replace those losers 3:) I was surprised at the lack of recruitment, but it forced me to find Bao Hong. Old school in making me talk to everyone in town :)
I love how the generals are inferior. Dong Min is a tool… Cai Yong despite being mediocre is awesome in this mod so far (later on he was replaced due to lack of troops).
Visited Cave. Food and Hua Xiong are a boon. Guo Dian cut. Dong Zhuo, Hua Xiong, Cai Yong core very strong. Power leveled to 6 for some equipment.
Heading North – Bian Zhang is a BITCH!
Han Sui Battle: “Where is that coward Huangfu Song and Zhang Wen?” Should it be Lu Zhi rather than Zhang Wen? Han Sui Battle Rough! Price for rest outrageous at 800. Went back to castle. Leveled up and decked out in equipment. Zhang brothers not too tough. The rocky map is awesome!
Xu Rong is solid. Replaced Qiang. LOL! I rested before talking to him (I’m used to the Ma Yuan Yi encounter there). Dong Min replaced by Hu Zhen.
Li Ru is good. Replaced Hu Zhen for now. Party of Dong Zhuo, Hua Xiong, Li Ru, Xu Rong, Cai Yong. Messed up and attacked wrong castle. Lu Bu ate me for breakfast.
Capitol Battle: Umm… yan re… I had to cheat on this…By retreating I’m let out on the wrong side of the castle. Might be a cooler feel if this was just Dong Zhuo murdering the eunuchs.
Lu Bu replaces Xu Rong
Chi Tu Ma fun to find… Liu Yu major recruit… Need his troops. Replaces Cai Yong… comparable but 3x troops
Nice surprise after Chang An… The only problem with the last section is that the boss battle is impossible to do without cheating. Something to consider might be a larger troop count.
Awesome mod so far! Very very difficult though…
Shingen01ParticipantI give this a try! The poor Prime Minister is sooooo misunderstood… What’s wrong with wanting booze, babes, and tons and tons of torture? LOL!
Shingen01ParticipantBest Story line/Text Modifications: Flames of Wu – The changing generations of the Sun family was EPIC!
Best Map Modifications: Rise of Ieyasu 2.0 – The map was confusing to navigate at times, but it was shaped just like Japan. The daimyo were all placed historically!
Best Battle System / Tactic Modifications: Whichever one introduced 8 tactic slots. Nothing pissed me off more than losing tactics I liked.
Best Difficulty Modifications: Yuan Shao’s Revenge – The general selections in this mod were really cool.
Best Portraits: Rise of Ieyasu – Holy cow, the portraits made this game a totally different feel!
Best ROM Tool: I have no clue :(
Best ROM Enhancement: Being able to pass multiple weapons and items on the same menu without having to start everything from scratch again.
Best Comedy in a Mod: Yuan Shu’s Mod was pretty off the wall
ROM of the Year: Rise of Ieyasu – This felt like a totally different gaming experience
I enjoyed everyone’s mods! keep them coming :)
Shingen01ParticipantThe Jin idea is cool! Sima Yi and his sons trouncing the fruitcake known as Cao Shuang 3:) A Ma family one would kick ass, but they were pretty stagnant in terms of territory. A Jiang Wei one would be fun too (Start off with him serving Wei or Zhuge).
Shingen01ParticipantChapter 2 – Conquest of the Southlands
Party Level 12 – Sun Ce, Huang Gai, Sun Jing, Cheng Pu, Sun Quan*
Picked up Saltpeter in cave.
Gate battle – Pretty easy against 1 dude. Looking forward to recruiting Zhou Tai. Chen Wu is useful as he has a high troop count and is powerful (replaces Sun Jing).
Castle – A lot of guys think I’m Liu Bei LOL! Xu Gong Packs a Punch! Zhou Tai doesn’t have enough troops yet, but I’m sure he’ll be good later. Good job with this. Tiger Paws!!! Mwahahahahahahaha!!! Cuirass seems outdated at this point (all my equipment was the same or better so I sold it for money).
Dan Yang – Powder bailed me out against Tigers. Dueled Yan Baihu. Pirates…. Uggggghhhh… New party – Sun Ce, Huang Gai, Cheng Pu, Sun Quan, Zhou Yu (so I can have Powder x2).
Lu Jiang – Powder and haste did the trick. Taishi Ci is BAD-ASS (Sweet job limiting his troop growth). Serpent (Hidden item is out of date at this point).
Zhang Zhao is cool, almost made the cut… I wish he had troop growth. He did serve the Sun family for like 5.367 million years. Recruited Yu Fan in random encounter. Sent to billeting.
Went after Yuan Shu (Level 15 w/recover) Taishi Ci, Sun Ce, Huang Gai, Sun Quan, Zhou Yu, Cheng Pu* Wrecked with Powder. Ji Ling Recruited during random encounter! HOLY CRAP!
Final Battle Yan Baihu! Wrecked havoc with Powder! Cool way to take care of Ce…
Chang Sha – He Qi cut (I noticed in a previous post you have improved him, which may make him viable at this point)… Ji Ling added to Party. Ji Ling, Taishi Ci, Huang Gai, Sun Quan, Zhou Yu, Cheng Pu*
Awesome MOD!Shingen01ParticipantChapter 1 – Dealing with a Tyrant
Village – Sun Jian and Sun Ce are exactly how I envisioned them (Brutes with Intelligence). Huang Gai and Cheng Pu are very versatile (and participated in pretty much every battle until they left). I switched weapons right away giving Ce and Jian the whip and serpent. I placed Han Dang at the top of the party so he could act as a screen. Cool Surprise! Ce and Jian were up to the task. Food was a serious problem, so I hauled ass to Chang Sha.
Observation – I love the initial increase in troop size!
Chang Sha – (Level 3 when I arrived!) Great job with the forced Quan recruit! Ditched Zu Mao and Han Dang (escort complete). Sold Smoke Pots for more money (for Weapons and Food). I figured that the party can’t afford to avoid battles and keep eating food at this point. Divvied up Resurrect and Tiger Paws. Bought a Qiang (Gai, Ce and Jian are now bad-ass). Decided to get a more money so I can tackle Tiger’s Den. Didn’t bother with food at this point (Fought until badly damaged, healed up, rinse and repeat). Walked around until I could buy 1 more Qiang and some food.
Attempted to tackle Tiger’s Den. Set out at Level 6 with 3000 food.
Observations – Qiang’s seem very powerful at this point (and outclass the whip and serpent). Tigers are a #%@*ing pain!
Tiger’s Den – Rough Battle. The bad ass kitty likes to one hit kill. Sun Jian took him out in a duel and I musoued the rest of em to death.
Treasure Cave – Well placed food! Items very worthwhile. War Manual given to Sun Quan. Ran out of Food!!!!
Heading Out to Si Shui at Level 10 (Sun Jian, Sun Ce, Huang Gai, Cheng Pu, Sun Quan) Brought 12000 Food.
Observation – Cool use of Sea Wings. I feel like I’m getting ready for D-Day!
Si Shui – Cool Trick with Hua Xiong charging out of gate!!! Your surprise battles add a lot of dimention and feel to the game.
Cave – Armor good find! Good job making all hidden items usuable! Hehe! Thank You for Food!!! Sun Ben was cut (Quan had similar troops)
Hu Lao Gate – Lu Bu crushed by Powder (He got one good hit in with carnage) Sun Jing cut. Powder is pretty powerful (I saw in your post that you have changed the cost).
Luo Yang
Gate 1 – Protect was huge against powder! Xu Rong musoued me but the team beat the crap out of him..
Gate 2 – Good job! Was not expecting this fight yet. Powder screwed up Lu Bu. He did his damage though. Took out Diao Chan first.
Luo Yang – Good job giving incentive to go back (with problems in the Southlands). Cool that Sun does not finish off Dong.
Cool that we get to see Yuan Shao. Links to Liu Biao very well. Terror was cute, but Powder won out.
Liu Biao’s boys – Mean mean thing to do… Sun Jing is back in the party LOL! Great job making it feel like the Sun Clan has lost everything! Good job advancing story through villager talk (We actually know what else is going on in the China).
Observation – The mace that is found seems outdated at this point.
AWESOME job so far! Haven’t encountered any new bugs yet. I’ll post my observations for part two in a bit.
Shingen01ParticipantI'm more than halfway through your mod (I'm taking care of a situation in Wei), so I'll start posting my notes on the mod in a bit! Awesome job! It adds a totally different experience!
Quote:Upped TP cost of Powder as it was abusable and spammable at 5 TP. New cost is upped to 10 so it will take a little more strategy to balance tactic conservation and damage output.Good idea, Quan and Yu were hooked on that stuff!
Shingen01ParticipantDownloaded your most recent version! I'll get started on this tonight. Looking forward to chopping down some people with a certain pirate!
Shingen01ParticipantQuote:The problem is lowering it enough where he's not useless because he is kind of a master of fighting and tactics and if I lower his troop count it will seriously hamper his damage outputNothing wrong with keeping Zhang Liao bad-ass!
Shingen01ParticipantChapter 8 – Endgame
It was extremely easy to level up in this area. I reached 50 (and 52 with the side trips) when trying to raise money for Platemail. I don’t see anything wrong with this, as you have a few curveball encounters in this stage (Tacticians with Thwart, Raise, CHAOS uggghhhh…).
Lu LingQi didn’t make the cut. I loved her troop numbers though, so she almost made it. At this time I was emphasizing high INT so I could survive some of those nasty tacticians out there.
Ru Nan – Halberds seem kind of cheap for what they do. I noticed that you have them show up at the Item Shop in Jin (and in treasure chests as well). If you remove them from Runan, some of the 5 swords will remain valuable up to Jin (I remember discarding 1 of the swords found in the Wei cave since at that point I bought everyone Halberds).
Guo Huai portrait looks bad-ass!
Jin – This was the toughest battle for me in the game (I handled the Grotto later with people that can handle it hehe). Chaos was BRUTAL!!! The only thing that saved me after my third attempt was that the enemy attacked each other instead of casting Raise (Deng Ai did this). You might have a bug that has the computer attack instead of Raise.
After the battle I recruited Zhong Hui, Deng Ai, and Du Yu (who is a BEAST) in random encounters. This made the Grotto possible (with Du Yu’s Thwart).
Grotto – You did a good job making Lu BU relevant in this one. I wrecked everyone else with Thwart and power pills but ran out of juice. The only way I took out Honda was with an epic duel.
Gates 1 + 2 were crushed with Chaos.
Thwart was huge for our buddy in Gate 3. I like the full circle effect of your story! Lu Bu must atone hehe… Stabby stab!
Luo Yang Battle Part 1 was challenging. Same issue from Jin though (Cept this time it was Quan).
Part 2 – Loved the Godfather like quote LOL! Ran like a bitch and got mauled (I was out of TP). Came back and whooped ass.
Surprise – That caught me with my pants down. 2nd time I wrecked it since I prepared. The Sima Bros and Xu Shu were easy to take with their low AP. I assume you might have done this intentionally for a whack-a-mole approach (Take out easy guys go after the other two. When easy guys get raised whack them down again and go after the original two again).
Final Party was Lu Bu, Zhang Liao, Du Yu, Yang Hu, Deng Ai (Almost cut Lu Bu by adding Zhong Hui and somebody else but felt that would be wrong LOL)
Possible Bug – Yang Hu shows up as a random encounter in this area.
Awesome job with this Mod! I can give it another run in a week or two to check out your recent changes if you like. I’ll probably start your Wu Mod next so I can take notes and post observations for you. Sun Ce/Taishi Ci/Gan Ning should help my Lu Bu syndrome.
Shingen01ParticipantQuote:In that case, maybe I should lower his troop count?A lower troop count might work. Many of my party decisions were based on troop size to a point (Huang Zhong got dumped in favor of Wei Yan eventually). Zhang Liao is one of the 3 Zhangs though… so who knows…. Maybe you can have him leave when Guan Yu and Zhang Fei left in the original (That would just be mean though) hehe… I'm a Zhang Liao fan so I don't mind him sticking around.
Quote:You mean LB? He was a recent addition in version 3.0. I could make that change if it makes more senseYup… LB. He was an awesome addition. Stats weren't broken, but he was a jack of all trades that had some cool tactics. His quote could be interpreted as Lu Bu causing people or as causing pain. I know what you mean though, and it is a shoe peddling country bumpkin that's saying it…. LOL!
Quote:Hmm, I didn't think he was recruitable, but meh, as long as it's not gamebreaking >_>Yeah… He's not broken or anything. If a player doesn't pick up DD he's a good substitute. He ends up with 33727 troops at level 52 so he is serviceable.
I'll post up the final Chapter Experience in a bit. That Grotto was a MEAN SOB!
Shingen01ParticipantChapter 7 – Invasion of Wu
The invasion makes total sense now! Wei is in shambles which allows us to tackle the immediate threat of Wu.
During this chapter I was able to outfit my entire party with steeds (timing seems about right for that).
Really cool dealings with the Wu cave! It’s totally optional to do at that point so you can take out Zhang Zhao first (or do the cave first to make Zhang Zhao easier). I like the flexibility and the time it saves traveling from point A to point B.
Sun Ce was a THORN (He should be I think). I wound up killing everyone else first (ran out of TP… Beavis would be sad…) and focused/did tactic strikes when I could. I eventually won through attrition.
The new rock formations were awesome! I didn’t know when/where the next battles would happen! The maze wasn’t controller throwing annoying and added a dimension that was not there in the original.
The War Spirits (the ones that need to be defeated to get the new toy) were tough. I got my ass kicked until I reproached them when the team was level 46 (Evade! Wooohooo!)
At this point I went back to Jing Zhou and took out the Pang Tong replacement. He is wicked good and took LB’s spot (don’t worry not the Lu Bu LB). I’ll call him DD and he lasted for quite a while.
Boss Battle – First fight wasn’t too tough, but I got ambushed and ran away during the second. Came back and slaughtered them.
I recruited Zhang Zhao in a random encounter. If I didn’t have DD he would have made the team. At this point (Lu Bu, Zhang Liao, Guan Yu, DD, Yang Hu).
Shingen01ParticipantQuote:Yeah, I just hope he wasn't too overpowered.Yeah… Zhang Liao was the general I never contemplated removing. I almost took Lu Bu out of the battle formation (with a 7 man party) at the end, but I figured that would just be wrong (and he would kill me for trying LOL).
