ModeratorSo much new code was bound to create overflow on different parts of the game. This was likely part of the issue a few years back when adding lots of additional dialogue, the hex would accidentally overflow into other parts of the code, messing up events, enemy behavior, etc. So where is this Yuan Shao 3.0 business I see on here?? ? Is there a new IPS patch and doaeditor so we dont have to inject graphics anymore via Fedian IV? Im going to have to check out the romhacking guide… Just did and wow Ive forgotten so much. MidKnight you continue to do some amazing stuff.

Glad to see LYS has kept the smoke pots lit for the glory of Huo Hu.
I still regret never completing the hero of chaos mod after having been mired in bugs for weeks that sucked the life out of it. Since then ive had a family with two great kids and life just keeps me so busy now. I’ve still tried to follow up on all of the great tools still being made by MidKnighT. Thanks to everyone here for your dedication.

ModeratorThere are a few borks that I am aware of in addition to officers not always being removed and this happens sometimes randomly so its hard for me to pinpoint them. Sometimes it affects Guan Yu, other times Dian Wei or Guo Jia.
1. Events are not working even with an event code which prevents the emperor from moving from castle to castle even though all triggers are still in place in both battles and speeches. Once you acquire the Xiahou brothers and eliminate Dong Zhuo/Li Jue, the dialogue should progress to the Lu Bu/Yuan Shu portions respectively, but they don’t. They get stuck.
This is the largest bug and I have been unable to determine when and why this happens and in which version this began happening. If this doesn’t work, this prevents many things from continuing including the Zhuge Liang visitation portion which also prevents the “Shu House” from being crossable which acts as a barrier to prevent players from progressing through certain parts of the story too early without acquiring Sima Yi. I have tried recopying all event data from the original game but this somehow fails to fix it, unless I’m copying something wrong…. which is very possible.2. Lu Bu uses Yuan Shu’s flee speech and the yes/no option gets completely eliminated for some reason. No a biggie, but it kind of bring finality to the war with Lu Bu at Xia Pi.
3. As you know, enemy officers trying to use life/raise fail and they also at times attack themselves when certain tactics fail, I think when they try to use certain healing tactics.
The mod you have is the most current.

ModeratorOn hiatus. I tried updating the mod lately and I ran into a major issue that stopped me from wanting to continue. First of all, the events stopped working. For example, in the original when Dong Zhuo was defeated at Xu Chang, an event would happen that would allow the Emperor to switch between castles. This stopped working for some reason which messes up the game not too badly until you get to the Zhuge Liang leave event portion. Also the Yuan Shu speech mid-battle about him leaving also does not work. Yes, the forced-officer leave events tend to work randomly as well.
The premise of the mod was to be different than stock DOAE where you almost never replaced your characters except maybe 1 or 2 so you literally wind up cycling through everyone in your party at some point because I’m making STAT ranges so large. This was much different than the original DOAE even, and especially different form most mods like where Yuan Tan gets 230STR and 250INT :P
I put loads of work into the mod, but the event bugs which fuel this mammoth of a mod are such a huge barrier that I even considered starting over from scratch if I ever picked it up again. Darn, and after I put all that work into those portraits… a shame really.
Thanks for giving a try though. Maybe I should just post the borked up version for anyone just to playtest some of the basic working elements.

ModeratorNothing new as of yet. Work has kept me busy that I never got to finish up Hero of Chaos. It’s probably 70% complete but just dead ends. I play tested it and some of the other mods lately and found a nasty bug where every time an enemy buffs with a spell like zeal or haste, they then attack themselves. Weird stuff.

ModeratorLife got really busy in the last year. I have only touched the Hero of Chaos mod only once for the last year or so. Generally speaking I hit a wall considering I developed the mod up until the point of Cao Cao’s death. The mod just started getting so complex as I was trying to incorporate historical events and then trying to decide what happens after Cao Cao dies is where I stalled. Since I don’t generally have anyone to bounce ideas off of, it makes it hard to just think of something that will work from scratch. Maybe the future will hold some surprises yet…

Moderator1. If the 8th person in the party equips weapons/armor, they are automatically de-equipped after a battle, even though it shows they are still equipped. The player also gets the error message of [OFFICER] does not have any items every time an item is passed or equipped in other characters if the 8th character has no items in their inventory.
2. Cannot omit portraits using the omit portrait key in DOAEditor.
3. DOAEditor is not editing the ‘Auto-Succeed’ code found at 5710. I click the button, but when I check the hex, it is not set for ’01’ I can set it manually though via a hex editor but DOAEditor is not doing it. This may also be the issue below for the fire tactic. I’m guessing this is also why when I’ve used “Duel” that it has been failing…. Confirmed. I have it set for auto-succeed but it is still 00 in the hex.
4. The graphic for ‘Fire Tactics’ is not working properly. When the element box for tactics is checked, I get a garbled graphic of random crap rather than the flame tactic. This is probably just referenced wrong for pulling the correct graphic.
Other annoying problems, but not as big as the ones above:
5. Enemies can’t use Douse, Castle, or the water protection tactic as it freezes the game, especially during all-out. Protect and Guard seem to work fine. (confirmed this through lots of testing) I just omitted these tactics from the mod for now and it works fine.
6. I need help getting [EVENT-4D27] to run properly. For some reason, it is acting like [END] and not continuing the dialogue. <– This is the Yuan Shu Emperor Speech Event where you select YES/NO but I'm using it for the battle of Xia Pi with Lu Bu. Somehow I've messed it up…

ModeratorThere is more than one all snow tile. You will have to find which ‘one’ not to use. Just replace those ‘warping’ snow tiles with the one that doesn’t warp and it will be fine.
