Whoever has the black cities starts out around Jingzhou, so I guessed it was him. Plus Dong Zhuo was killed in 192, and the earliest scenario is 195.

Are there alternate starting points or did you play all the way to 228? I only know of the 195 scenario.

Well technically Suikoden Tactics has a prologue that takes place about 7 years before 4, it has Lazlo and Snowe as kids.
Edit: I took another look at Suikosource and it seems 5 is actually 12 years before Suikoden 2. I’m sure I saw it say it was 18 somewhere though…

The shops have items for sale that are used on party members, not sure what the effects are, but I’m guessing they cure status effects like Blind, Confuse, and Sleep. I know one of them is Antidote.
Going back through, I noticed that "Jizhou" is in the Qingzhou area, out on the peninsula…did Yuan Shao control that area before Guandu or did SKOB mess up?
I think Hugo is the default Flame Champ, plus his Fire skill has the highest max. Chris gets an extra scene at the end of Chapter 4 if you choose her though.
I’d go with Hugo, myself.
PS1 emulators should be easy enough to find but you’ll want to try BitTorrent or something similar if you want to get any ISOs, unless you want to sift through all the Google crap.
Try Zophar’s Domain, they tend to have all the emulators.
You know I actually got 2 for free after borrowing it from somebody, they didn’t want it back though.
