Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterXian Zhu Xuande said:
Remember what we were talking about earlier? There is someone in Nanyang who says he/she thought they saw Yuan Shu sneaking around. And there was another script which seemed to suggest that you could find Yuan Shu and confront him. It is almost like you would have to fight him another time or two before finally doing away with him under Yuan Shao.
Yuan Shu is such a lovable rascal!
Yea I remember you saying that earlier, now that you mention it. Ah, what could have been.

Hey, Niahak.
I’m looking at the ROM on a Windows computer and each newline character shows up as a box (in the left-hand side) but things show up normally on the right-hand side. Is that normal? The ROM seems to work properly. I can’t imagine it would have anything to do with the ROM’s actual data?
This is almost certainly a Windows thing. I go the ultra-lazy route and display the same thing in the left-hand side as would show up in the right-hand. Since listboxes don’t have support for the newline character, they show up as boxes.
So no, it’s not a problem with the ROM.

ParticipantYeah, all is well. :)
"The last of the
five Tigers is in
Liu Chan’s army."
WTF? Capcom…
Ah, well. More free space for script.

ParticipantNiahak, we were talking about ways to sort this?
Well, I just realized something. Alphabetically would be absolutely perfect and would save tons of time. When you are editing a script you generally already know what it is you want to change by reading the script in the game. That would allow you to skim right down the list and find the exact line you want to update.
If you wanted to get fancy at all you could allow both a natural order mode and an alphabetical mode. Either could be handy at different times. I’m spending more time searching for lines than I am updating things, though, so this would cut the amount of time I’m spending by around 50%.

ModeratorI’ll look into an alpha-sort by this weekend. It shouldn’t be too rough.
Another idea I just had is to sort by length of the line. Generally when starting with a hack you’d probably want to start with the biggest ("plottiest"?) lines, I would think.

ParticipantLength of line is a good idea if you are going to offer multiple sort options (which would be very cool). I wouldn’t see it as the best option, though. For it to be useful you would have to be updating scripts across the whole game without actually playing through it and that requires a pretty intimate knowledge of the whole game’s script. I’ve got just that and I’m still relying mostly on context while going through. It would definitely be useful, though.
But boy oh boy, all the time that could be saved with alphabetical sorting!
I just added the new version of DoaE 2.0: Cao Cao Edition. :)
Thanks, Niahak!

ModeratorAlphabetical sorting’s been added in 0.03. It’s accessible via the Edit menu.
Unless there are any feature requests, my next planned feature will be loading officer names dynamically so you don’t have to remember who’s who.
As a side note, there is nothing stopping you from editing the included .tbl files to change who’s who – say you wanted to change Liu Bei to Cao Cao.
1) Open doaetable.tbl (this is essentially just a normal .tbl file)
2) Find the line F2A6=Liu Bei (and the following lines)
3) Change "Liu Bei" to "Cao Cao" preserving spacing – the spaces after and before the name are quite important to this file.
4) Change the original "Cao Cao" entries to whoever he’s been changed to, via steps 2-3.
5) Open officertable.tbl
6) Find the line Liu Bei=A6
7) Change "Liu Bei" to "Cao Cao" (no special spacing here)
8) Change the original "Cao Cao" to whoever he’s been changed to, via steps 7-8.
Having two tables (one for input, one for output) is a really big convenience for me because it means I don’t have to generate them dynamically. In future versions I hope to do so, so that the table files are (mostly) unnecessary.

Keymasterthis doesnt save for me :( I open rom, export it to said rom…but when I open it back up, it’s like it didn’t change anything.
How does it work for you guys? Judging by your convo, it must work. Did you guys get the newer release or the old one?

ParticipantI haven’t tried to save from the newer one yet, so there could be a bug. But in the older one I just exported to the ROM and it worked out fine (whenever I didn’t make a bone-headed mistake).

KeymasterAh I see…I thought I had the older copy on Page 1 of this thread, but Niahak must’ve updated that (to the one on page 4 or whatever).
Probably it’s the new version then…hopefully Niahak still has this! hehe

KeymasterTriple post! Not sure why I held off on remaking this mod, this is sweet…I’m gonna do this until it’s done screw changing diapers lol…
Lots of pointer mixups so far. I have to remember Huo Hu is in Zhu Ge Liang’s spot and Lei Bo is in Huo Hu’s spot…and Yuan Shu is in Liu Feng’s spot…etc

ModeratorSorry guys, the move left me without internet at home for a few days.
I’ve noticed the text editor’s issues and hope to have them resolved by the end of this weekend. That’ll include an update to grab the officer names from the ROM, ending pointer mixups.
