After working so hard on DoaEditor, I'm currently in another coding slump (as in…looking at code is the last thing I wanna do). That said, if there was a physical counter attack perhaps the attack is only 50% power. For example:
1. Tactic to turn on counter attacks is cast for officer 2
2. Officer 1 attacks Officer 2
3. Officer 1 hits at 100% strength
4. Officer 2's counter attack is at 50% strength (this could be done by adding "Guard" status to officer 1 temporarily)

I've been trying to get back into working on things after my hiatus for moving my residence. I've been tinkering around with Skyrim and modding the 3rd installment of Rise of Lu Bu which is almost complete :finger: Although it doesn't have ALL the latest and greatest stuff (just the final 1.2 patch) as adding 1.3 would take a LOT more re-reediting.
At any rate, for countering, it would HAVE to be weaker, or could even pull from a list of data that varies damage with a 50% return damage (-armor defense) cap and a minimal damage of say 10%
August 12, 2013 at 10:51 pm #45246unfyModeratorZenicreverie has been doing his first blind playthrough of DoaE on twitch. I've been downloading the archives to watch as part of curiosity to how a newb plays. He found a digital copy of the manual (I believe he has the cart, btw), and I gave him a list of generic tactic stuffs (these are fire spells, these are water spells, healing, this one escapes from battle, etc). I also gave him only a few hints:
a) search in pots and weapon racks and stuff (he even found the trident on his own, i hope on his own at least!)
b) Liu Zhang tap tap tap thing
c) some instructions on the sleeping bastard if needed
d) if he ever ran across an open treasure chest, he hit a bug in the game and he'd have to ask for help.
e) if the game seems to 'end' after the yuan shu fight, he answered the question wrong
Last I checked, he had just beaten Yuan Shu and decided to settle JZ first. He beat the Huang Zhong / Wei Yan castle and called it a night. I've not told him that he was 'intended' to do Yuan Shao first ;) … just that he had the option of how he wanted to proceed and that he did indeed have to do both (he asked).
Watching his play through, he did end one multi-hour game session not figuring out the HZ bridge at the beginning. He tried a bunch of stuff for a good while and then called it a night. Next day he reordered his party first thing once he got in there. Dunno if cheated or stroke of genius while sleeping etc ;).
Anyhoo, I reason for mentioning the above is that I'll have the videos put up eventually for anyone who's interested in watching them to see how someone new approaches the game. Might offer new modding ideas or similar.
August 14, 2013 at 2:04 am #45247sonic.penguinModeratorInteresting. I remember my first play through…. it took FOREVER because I got stuck @ the Zhuge Liang wake-up section for WEEKS!! Then I solved it just out of frustration and damn luck. I talked to him and pressed no and was talking with my dad at the time when after a few seconds…. VOILA!! I was like, WTH!? Anyways, my next big road block was the Sima Yi Thunder negate and actually winning against his infinite supply of Wan Fu…
August 14, 2013 at 3:45 am #45248unfyModeratorZenic got the wake up thing first try. But watching him play, he's not a button masher / impatient heh. My brother was actually the one to figure out wakey wakey long ago.
Rescuing Liu Zhang (tap tap tap) wasn't difficult my first play through – but it took HOURS my second time through. I was foaming at the mouth in rage heh. He had some issues with it, but not much.
I never had a problem with Thunder – but the endless Wan Fu had me throwing controllers a few times as a kid. Oh the rage. Makes me a bit nervous to finish FoW with hearing that there will be multiple guys with full hp revive tactic :finger:
Zenic's HZ bridge thing – he actually had it hit him after he cut the stream and it worked, but didn't save it so he could show it on stream the next day heh.
Like a lot of folks, Zenic did Jing Zhou before Yuan Shao… including killing Shu Lu Bu and then fighting the weaker ghost of Lu Bu @ Yuan Shao heh. Still has the gemsword (making use of it is cryptic). I've not told him where Chi Tu Ma is, or what it does. He's over leveled and learned Ji Mian at the offset of Shu. I mentioned having a smarty pants as the vanguard was wise… about the only real "do it this way" thing I've told him. I've seen him cast int-based tactics with plenty of dumb-as-bricks generals. Am leaving that alone to not spoil "newb playing" too much. The "smarty guy up front" was to help save some sanity in the coming Wu & Wei areas (call it sympathy if you will …. as a kid having a pet rock as your vanguard meant Zhang Zhao fight was…. ugh… let alone Sima Yi fights).
Out of curiosity – Ji Mian / Ce Mian is top guy in the party for getting rid of it right ? Does it reflex off of vanguard vs vanguard or who-cast-it vs vangaurd ? Does party leader outside of combat effect combat at all ? Outside of tactic point availability and tactics available, does tactician INT affect anything in combat (ji mian etc) ? Is there any point in having leader or tactician affect stuff in mod stuffs ?
August 14, 2013 at 12:10 pm #45249sonic.penguinModeratorFrom what I understand, the Ji Mian/Ce Mian code is random as to when it wears off. You could have Zhang Fei cast Ce Mian in the original (or Zhang Bao by that time) and it could last for 1 turn or 10 turns! What having the high INT guy @ the top of the formation does is the prevention of:
A: Negate success is based of the INT of the party leader, ie: Negate vs your party is less likely to succeed if Zhuge Liang leads your party
B: Tactics fail more against high INT officers so it acts as a defense measure vs. tactics against the first guy in the party who generally takes more hits anyways.
Thats my understanding of it.
Quote:but the endless Wan Fu had me throwing controllers a few times as a kid. Oh the rage. Can relate!
Quote:Makes me a bit nervous to finish FoW with hearing that there will be multiple guys with full hp revive tactic :finger:It's not that bad! I'd still like to update it w/ the 1.3 changes though. I started to work on those but wanted to finish up Rise of Lu Bu 3.0 while people were doing BETA runs on Flames of Wu.
August 16, 2013 at 5:06 am #45250unfyModeratorHe just hit Lu Sun in random encounter before getting salt peter and all that.
It didn't go well.
He did manage for Ma Chao to land Huo Shen against Lu Sun though
i was very :headsplode:

November 21, 2013 at 9:51 am #52721MiDKnighTModeratorYou applied patch 1 and patch 2?
Send me the ROM and I’ll take a look.
November 21, 2013 at 5:58 pm #52723sonic.penguinModeratorJust apply it to a regular DOAE rom. I can try downloading a different version of DOAE, maybe that will do it. I’ve just been using a regular rom
November 21, 2013 at 6:00 pm #52724sonic.penguinModeratorAnd yes. Applied 1 then 2, i’ve been doing this long enough XD
November 21, 2013 at 6:03 pm #52725sonic.penguinModeratorTried a new rom from kongming.net, gets a gray screen upon starting. It seems it is not expanding the ROM properly. It’s only .99 MB
November 22, 2013 at 7:33 am #52726MiDKnighTModeratorYou’re supposed to use DoaEditor to expand the ROM first. Did you do that?

I’m an idiot…At any rate, think you might be able to tweak the profile/tactic issue with DOAEditor so I can use 1.3 with another mod or will it just be too long and cumbersome? Giving officers a profile other than the default really screws things up, and I recall there being an issue with tactic choices on pg. 2 31-50 not being saved.
