ModeratorMerry Christmas and Happy New Year!

ModeratorYeah, Gilgamesh’s second form was too tough for me until I got up to level 75, and even then it was kind of rough.
The reward you get for it is pretty nice, as are the things you can steal from him.

ModeratorThis would be very, very interesting. I’d like to see this happen, actually.
I’m seeing less and less reason to get a PS3.

ModeratorAnother update. This one goes up until the second juyi where the brothers are reunited after being separated by Cao Cao.
I didn’t really notice it before, but the portraits in this game are based on the DoaE2 portraits; unfortunately the palette isn’t as diverse, so they had to crop many parts and take out some details. As a result, Zhao Yun looks just plain tired.

(Are images in posts disabled or something? I couldn’t use the img bbcode or HTML code to post it directly).

ModeratorSorry to bump, but I didn’t want to create an entirely new Wild Arms topic.
I got back into Wild ARMs just before the start of the summer; I replayed it through to the end (though my copy started dying near the end) and I enjoyed it so much the third (fourth?) time around that I wanted to play through the series.
I ended up playing 3, ACF, 4, and 2 in that order and finally finished around a month ago. Wild ARMs Alter Code F is the best remake of any game I’ve ever played, and is a good game in its own right despite its terrible translation. I don’t think I’ve ever liked a game as much as ACF, which is rather odd because it’s lacking in some ways. I didn’t even enjoy Suikoden V as much, which says a lot. It’s sad that the game’s a bit expensive. I went on to import the WA ACF artbook, two soundtracks and a manga (the first time I’ve ever imported anything game-related from a store). Incidentally, I got my avatar from the artbook.
2 and 3 are both pretty good, but 4 is sadly not quite as good.
I wrote an article a while back about the series for a site I write for which pretty much sums up my thoughts on each individual game. Otherwise I’d be perfectly happy re-writing it here :P

ModeratorYeah, the Golmore Jungle skeletons are good. Probably the best place once you’re above level 40 unless you want to cheese it.
Niahak
ModeratorOh yes, FFT is easy. One of my roommates has made a habit of using only Ramza in story battles (after the first, of course). He levels up to 99 before that, but…
And the translation is mostly pretty bad. "Tortured thieves" was entertaining enough, but the rest just made the plot seem needlessly complicated. Kept getting mixed up between Larg and Dycedarg in my mind until the 3rd playthrough myself.

ModeratorActually, that’s the main bad part about turning on the fast-load and smoothing; you have to do it each time you turn the PS2 on.
I think it speeds up some games, but I’m not sure which ones.
Niahak
ModeratorI haven’t confirmed whether it really works or not, but there is an option in the PS2 menu to speed up PS1 load times.
Turn on the PS2 and leave the disc ejected. Go into options, then drivers, and highlight the PS1 driver and hit triangle. You’ll have two options to improve PS1 performance; the other one is a texture smoothing thing that only looks good on a few games.
So FFXII got you in the tactics mood?

ModeratorYou increase in rank if you have the right amount of hunts completed and the right amount of points. I.e. 14 marks and 50,000 points (or some such).
You get points from just killing normal enemies, so they’re a lot easier to get.
You can check to see how much of each you need by talking to the guy in the far corner of the 2nd floor of the Clan Hall.
I’m at Riskbreaker too (unsure how many marks), but I’m working on that.
It’d be going faster if it weren’t for two of my roommates also playing the game.
I didn’t even notice you get special stuff to buy at the bazaar merchant (Faith, Brave, Bubble – really great magic) until a few hours ago gameplay-wise.

ModeratorI found Exodus entirely by mistake at level 33… it wasn’t pleasant. :(
Oh, and I found out you just don’t get the Zodiac spear at all if you’ve opened certain chests. Lame.
Niahak
ModeratorGo right ahead, by all means. I just updated the guide so it has the actual name for the second castle (Jizhou, makes sense given the location).
Niahak
ModeratorAnother update, from the execution of the inspector up until going to Chenliu to join up with Cao Cao. This also includes an update to several place names, as I found out I can search for characters via Pinyin pronunciations (!) which makes prefecture names easier at least. As a result, I found out I had the wrong name for what was Qingzhou Castle… I think. I’ve replaced it with question marks for the time being, until I see its name in text again.
Niahak
ModeratorThe condition is that if you open any of a dozen treasure chests, then the location of the spear will be randomized. So if you don’t open any of them, then the location is known and you can grab it and get out of there. Apparently this is an issue because the dungeon is really, really tough. I haven’t gotten that far myself, I just heard this from a friend who got it yesterday.

ModeratorThe one remote so far thing might last till Christmas. Apparently there’s a huge shortage; Gamestop doesn’t even list the things on their website, and Nintendo’s online store says none are shipping till December 18th.
Lame. Oh well, I guess we’ll live… but I bet the console’s even more fun multiplayer.
