ModeratorCool, will try it. I did manage to get the game working with updated portraits with use of changing the 2 hex values + the code from the DOAE hacking page BUT for some reason the game freezes when opening the profile of Lu Su. It only does that once the portrait code has been added, even though all the new portraits load nicely. Have I got a buggy rom or what? I'll have to test it more to figure out why, all values are correct.

ModeratorAh good, I can see how displaying agility would be more important than TP in some instances, not like I can stand there looking at each officers AGI to determine if theyre going to go a turn before me or not. Anyways I digress.
Jie Ce/Negate would be a good replacement to Gui Han. It might make the game slighty more annoying however as enemies will constantly cancel out your Bei Ji/Zeal. Substituting it for something like Li Jian/Mislead might be a little too imbalancing in conjunction with Ji Mian or Ce Mian.
If editing Agi is anything like AP it might be slightly annoying as we had to hash out how the displayed values dont match the actual AP values in terms of damage, or even the critical hits was a toughy to crack.
Slicing it down to:
this is the Hex Address XXXXX change it to YY
does make things easier around here for those of us with short attention spans (points fingers all around!) Although some of us really like to know the nitty-gritty on details as well
Quote:You could change this, therefore, by changing:0x3861e: "23" -> "13"
0x38623: "63" -> "14"
0x38628: "1f" -> "15"
This changes the TP to DEF, woulndt AGI be more appropriate? J/w.
Other than that, got it working already perfectly :)

ModeratorChange the colors in paint or photoshop or use Irfanview which has a color swap feature, which I never really got used to. This has to be done BEFORE you upload it to the rom
sonic.penguin
ModeratorSkin Color = GREEN
Skin Shadows = Blue
Dark Shadows = Black
Everything else that will change with portrait color = White
This is the hardest thing with portraits, keep in mind that DOAE2 colors are swapped aka reversed from DOAE. So you will need to make your green -> blue and your blue -> green. I believe you can do this in Irfanview.

ModeratorGot it, wouldnt copy paste correctly so I just wrote it in manually (typed?) man, this game is so picky; you get 1 letter wrong and everything goes kookie. Boy arent I good :P Just kidding, thanks for the help guys.
Pics are spot on and look genuine and nice. Now just have to fix those ones with the black *dots*

ModeratorQuote:The other steps haven't been taken yet, either – so while DoaEd thinks it's dealing with an expanded ROM with portrait feature support, and the portraits themselves are in the right spot, the ROM wasn't modified to take advantage of them.Just assuming these are in the guide. After changing the code the game become unresponsive @ battles. Will check into what else i need to add.

ModeratorQuote:Maybe this could be a feature of DoaEd?I mean, sure, I'd have to do something tricky to absorb "any" BMP file and make sure it only has 4 colors, but I'm sure it's something that I could pull off if there's the demand for it.
Would be bigger and better than sliced bread :)

Moderatorokay, upload feature is broken lol 1 sec
Alright, first picture is of the editor obviously, the second is what it looks like in game. As you can see, it is Ma Chao in picture 2, but that is referencing bank 0, not bank 1

Moderatorhttp://www.4shared.com/file/ndQcdXSd/lubu.html
here is the link, download it and try replacing Liu Bei with another portrait from Bank 1 then save, output, then look at it in game.
Actually midknight expanded the rom via the hex editor. The portraits read in the DOAEditor properly, just dont import into the game.

Moderatoryep, and they all show up as the portraits that are in bank 0.
sonic.penguin
ModeratorI just copied some pictures, changed colors and hand drew in details/shading etc that get messed up when changing from 16 bit -> 4 bit pictures. Seems midknight has the magic touch with importing them.

ModeratorLets tone down the language lol. If LYS is like me, it makes about 20 pages of errors :/

ModeratorNiahak, the portraits arent pulling the pictures into the game correctly. For example Bank 0 with values 3C 3D 3E 3F 40 41 is Yuan Shu, however, when I switch it to Bank 1 it is my custom portrait in the editor. Problem is, in-game it is still Yuan Shu and not my custom portrait. Something must not be right with the pointers on the export process?

Moderatorokay, I see what you mean by the splint mail, I wonder if that is because it has a dual code for the item ie: 62 -> 63 who would want 210 defense anyways q.q.
Edited: FIXED! it was the item code. 62=110 63=85 Who gave me those item codes anyways? Curse you midknight! Bwahahahaha! :P
Edited: Also FIXED is that guy in Guang Ling. Somehow I mustve copied over his text with the event join code. The gate guys dialogue is right next to that event in the editor
Those spirit riders were made tough to make the shortcut an option but not an easy one, thought it might also be a surprise. The servants were just kind of a joke at first lol, but they do serve an interesting purpose I think.
Quote:I still don't like the automatic one-hit kills though… Anybody who has an AP > 200 before Wu falls into this category.I am toning those down a bit in the Lu Bu battles to where maybe the first hit is a 1 hit and the second is near death third is hard but not devastating.
Quote:Overall I think this game is 500% better than the first beta versionGood to hear :)
Quote:that canal mountain blast musta been bigger than let on, poor Wu mountain spiral :(. the ambushes in there were neat too.I always thought it shouldve been a maze well with Lu Xun getting caught in it and so on. Just seemed to much of the same to leave it the original that "everyone" knew how to get through.
Gonna work on some of these bugs and hopefully we will get some new portraits in game, that is, unless you finish it before I do that >_>
