ModeratorYour choice. Not gamebreaking if you say "no"

ModeratorUsing a new page would probably be best as running out of space via the middle of making changes would just make things harrier. I was actually wondering if somehow either AC or INT could be used to actually boost defense vs. tactics. Leveling AC and such is cool, but only works against physical damage in the current structure. Too bad you can't have dual AC eh? Like M.Def in Final Fantasy. Currently its just like M.Block, it either misses for no damage or hits for full damage.
I would agree also that a seperate IPS patch for this would be a must as, from experience, I know that editing shops and such can be a real pain, especially making it balanced, but I do think that new weapons would be awesome, but make sure they have at least 10 slots for letters, even if less are used if possible. IE: War Hammer or Sky Spear etc.

Just kidding, go ahead and feel free to use my custom GFX, sprites, and portraits. Glad to give back to the DOAE hacking community as so much has been provided for me for the things I'm not as good at like writing code :P Atma has some good ones too.

ModeratorQuote:How did you change the water graphic to a lightning bolt? That's a great effect. This was done by editing the two cells in the sprites sheet the correspond to that graphic. I've also enhanced the flame effect and also enhanced the rings that appear on a normal attack as well. Rise of Ieyasu now sports a Tornado effect as well :)

ModeratorI know cave entrances and exits have (in most cases) multiple sets of data for exit warps, but I believe you're talking about cave GFX data. A while back I was hoping someone could find the data for placing damage tiles all over the world map as i wanted to be more brutal to players on the world map.

ModeratorI can't seem to reproduce the issue… Upon being added to the party, there seems to be no issues. WHen you recruited him, did he go straight to your party or straight to billeting b/c you had 7 people?

ModeratorQuote:Hey Sonic!I dropped in a couple of days ago, all stealthy-like, to see what you were up to, and how your Flames of Wu mod is coming along. I had the in-laws in town, and they hadn't seen my son in quite awhile, so they were more than happy to watch him for a couple of days. That meant I a couple of days to play your mod!
I enjoyed it quite a lot. You are a very proficient officer-portrait designer. More than once, I made a decision to use one officer or another simply because their portrait was badass. Also, I found your map edits quite interesting. It wasn't as frustrating as Rise of Ieyasu, if only because my DoaE knowledge helped me keep my bearings a bit, since you kept some things the same. Good use of humor. Very well done. I'm humbled that you used a few of my enhancements as well.
I realized right off the bat that you, MidKnighT, and others had been very busy perfecting DoaE coding, as I was introduced with the "FOCUS" command. Love it. Every tactic seemed legitimately useful. Loved using the "Duel" tactic, especially during the early and mid game, to put enemy warriors (who has 200-220 STR) in their place. They just couldn't compete with Gan Ning FLEXX
If there was one thing that bugged me during the course of the game, it was the lack of being able to convert the defeated officers of my enemies to my cause. That's a big deal to me, though the steady trickle of converts that I picked up in town served to defray this annoyance quite a lot. The other was the difficulty of keeping food in my soldier's mouths. As such, I wouldn't recommend this mod to a novice DoaE player, even starting out. The learning curve is just too steep.
I hope I'm not belaboring points that have already been brought up here (I didn't want to wade through 50+ pages of feedback, please forgive)
As for bugs… there was one person that I recruited from one of the towns… I believe he is the one that is supposed to trigger the ability to talk to Lu Su. His name creates problems. He makes the colors go all wonky when I'm recruiting generals in billeting. He also messes up the officer's name that appears directly above his in the billeting list.
Welcome back Lud! Glad you had a chance to try this out and thanks for critiquing it. Hmm, more than once person has had this bug where you recruit that guy that causes things to go bad. I tried it myself and never had that issue… do you use savestates? I'll have to do a playthrough again to test it out. The person you recruit there is actually Ling Tong FYI.
Have you found officers to be more balanced in this mod? That was my main goal. I took a different route other than just recruit every guy you come across as that was A LOT more controllable in terms of officer tactics/types. Plus you actually have to fight the person to recruit them and that only worked in some cases IE: Gan Ning, although I'd agree, its definitely not for the novice but the portrait work was an epic undertaking.
Quote:That said, as one who's played the game a few times (just a few :crown:) advanced player, I enjoyed the mod immensely. I had toyed with the prospects of making a Wu mod, now I have no need. If I want to put my own touches on a Wu mod, I may just mod yours for my own enjoyment. If I can think of any more things to say that can help make it better, or just make you feel better about your great achievement, I'll pass them along. For now, please accept my humble "thank you" for making the last couple of days a blast.
Twas due to the things added by you, MiDKnighT and the other awesome contributions that helped to make this happen. There is still a bug that causes the game to lock up on all outs and such when the person @ the bottom of the formation goes first but its rare.
Thanks again for trying it and any advice you can give on that bug issue. FLEXX It's always great to hear from ya

ModeratorI like the idea. I've always felt that once you soup up your INT based officers that they just rule the game over your STR based characters. Making it so STR mostly rules defense would give another reason to pick your bruisers over your smarter officers AT TIMES*. Armor definitely tends to rule the game too much at points as not having the upgrades gimps your party, but once you get it everything is a breeze.

ModeratorThat's cool. You can post your findings too, but keep the peace at home :unibrow:

ModeratorSo… are any other changes necessary? How were the tactic changes/damage/costs? How was the story? Who was way over/under powered? Any other major bugs?
sonic.penguin
ModeratorYou can always walk back if you are unable to survive without having to repeat the prior battle. Throwing in Thwart or Chaos might be a possibility if I give it a 100+ TP use for each time, this way it will either be Thwart and kill or Zeal and kill, but not both.
sonic.penguin
ModeratorSo I'm assuming no one has had any other issues? Has anyone actually beaten this mod yet? What are the thoughts on the final areas?
Btw, Atma, are you playing this?

ModeratorTwo bugs fixed in the new version of Flames of Wu
Zhu Rong bug fixed that allowed double recruitment (will only take effect in new game)
Resurrection bug fixed which caused a player who exited a castle after dying at a certain part of the game to be teleported to a chapter 8 land.

ModeratorQuote:my starving southern bumpkins are quite accustomed to healing in battle and focus'ing up some TP'sWell, at least my food adjustments seem to be working properly >_>
Quote:I like how the generics that accompany the officers in Shu are almost as threatening as the officers themselves.Slogging through them like this really makes me feel like I'm invading a neighboring state…
I felt the same way. Having "rebel force" filling in all the blanks for every boss battle just made it seem…. meh. Glad its working out.
I still need to check on that Zhu Rong thing….

ModeratorQuote:i believe i hit only one bug tonight (other than game crash). the gate/citadel before mr happy…. there's a chick in that fight that hits kind of hard and has a higher defense and no tactics… and ya run into her a lot in the field. after the citadel fight, she joined in billeting, but then i ran across her in the field and recruited her again…. so… i have two of her.I'll have to check into this.
Quote:mr happyROFL!
Quote:oh, didn't discover until going to mr happy that smoke pots do indeed last longer. thank you <3Yes, about 3x as long, you're welcome!
Quote:sadly, i'm getting to a very difficult decision.gan ning has *carried* me throughout the game. he is still a beast, but is lacking the *1* tactic i need him to have to assure he stays in the party the rest of the game. I will prolly keep him anyway out of sheer loyalty… but that one tactic would cement it heh. otherwise, i'm trying to weigh party options for the one (if i have mr happy) or two (if no happy) slots remaining.
i like how you've done the general recruitment…..
Generals are a lot more controllable by setting them up to be recruited in towns. Having them recruited only via random encounters was just too hecktick planning a good, long mod like this.
Quote:a certain tactic costing 100 is truly interesting, especially with an opposing tactic you've not given enemies (as of yet). This was done to reduce the overpoweredness of focus in the late game so you have to plan TP use still in late game and not just nuke away with no rhyme or reason.
