ModeratorI didn't check full challenge rules, if you're allowed to run then surely you have a bit of wiggle room. No pun intended.
Haven't touched DW2 in a bit… just not in the mood to grind out that last 250-300k exp heh.

ModeratorQuote:…and how would anyone be able to kill Lu Bu then!? :twisted:Yeah. It makes a lot of the "get the enemy high strength guys beneath nearest power-of-ten" thing a lot more dangerous and not so great.
Coincidentally – instead of physical counter, what about a magic bounce ?

ModeratorQuote:Something I found people hated with my first releases of mods. Making mods just training in save-state hacking wasn't really what I felt I wanted, so I've eased up a lot on my modding with lots more testing.And it's appreciated.
While harder mods were awesome in the early days – the fact that most amped the difficulty to the point of save state abuse or constant resets was irksome IMHO. Like early Doom maps that required cheat codes to complete.
The other modders that work on adding features without making the game impossible are awesome well done :).
All of this said, James' contributions laid a lot of foundation for getting things started. :huohu:

ModeratorMaso DW1 looks rough.
Although once ya learn Hurtmore it probably becomes much more feasible.
DW3 hero solo can be a bit rough, DW3 fighter solo is cruel. There's a youtube (or was, dunno anymore) of a guy taking PoM solo through DW2 (just kill off the other two). I believe that comes down to just luck.
SMT:Nocturne hard solo is pretty brutal but very doable.
I've seen folks fiddle with shining force (and others in the genre) solo's, as well as phantasy star solos.
Then there's James' DOAE challenges that I'm sure most everyone here is familiar with. Those are reset heaven or save state abuse hell etc. Although it seems like the no-extra-fighting challenge might be plausible by a sane person.

ModeratorLYS: Beran, indeed I think. Level 30 isn't too hard to hit. You get to Rhone and then within an hour you should be in your lower to mid 30's. Upper 20's or lower 30's is all that's needed to beat the game 'naturally' AFAIK.
DA: Did you grind the Axe Knight, wander around inside Charlock, or do what I typically did and did the scenic loop starting and ending in cantlin ? I'd start in cantlin, head south / south east into the huge double swamp where ya find the token (or something … using but-thou-must's wuv), go through the mountain maze, and stop back in cantlin for refill. A bit more entertaining than back and forth walking although not as fast as axe knight grinding prolly.

ModeratorI've had several BW's drop chests but no new wizard rings. Sigh.
Had no luck getting hat, even attempted a fair amount save state abuse to try to RNG abuse – no luck.
Hex edit in the hat -> adds 4 defense equipped like equipment. Reduces MP cost of spells in battle (but not out of battle), does nothing when used as an item. Threw the hat away after isolating what it does (don't like to cheat).
Been playing at 200% speed. 44/39/32 are my levels IIRC. Mid 700k exp's. PoC has been useful for a while (for a change). Don't think he can hit a metal babble yet. PoM can't 1 hit them with falcon sword yet.

ModeratorCounter attacks drastically change things. Look at any SMT game :) — or I suppose any strategy rpg.
I dunno if it fits in DoaE, but it's a thought.

ModeratorThe boat is such a boon to freedom and open endedness in DW2.
And it probably started most console RPG players on their "zomg i got new mode of transportation, the world is miiiiiiiiiinnnneeeee".
I did boat, both keys, the moon crest via warp gates (south of mindenhall -> ostefair) simply because i usually get destroyed on the short walk if trying to do it by sea.
At that time, I didn't have stepguard so I didn't do the SoT money loop.
Prolly did the other key related things (erdrick stuff, tantegel stuff, crest in Hamlin). Didn't WFC yet either because the trek to Tuhl is usually fatal for me first few attempts and didn't wanna deal with it.
I avoided fairy water / repel in the sea due to decent exp. Went through charlock a couple times for the exp (and erdrick sword was mildly handy at the time). Tried to grind near… B…something ? The town west of Tuhl that has the warp gate to rhone swap/entrance. That didn't work out too well. Around Ostefair (moon crest) did okay for a few levels which was kinda weird (I usually get my ass handed to me).
The tower with moon fragment did okay for grinding too. A few floors up produces enemies that are more tolerable than the stuff outside tower.
Oh, a note about Bullwongs in Rhone – sleep tends to work pretty good.
Prolly near 600k exp without using speedup yet. Did try for the hat from magic vampirii with no luck yet. Haven't had a second wizard ring drop from a bullwong either.

ModeratorBlanche for General of the Left (hand)!
Yeah it'll be something like ya laid out.

ModeratorLevels now take 30-50k exp each.
Have around 300k exp. took 2hr to gain 120k? Casually that is.
At 32/30/25. No new spells to learn. Might just go beat the game next time I play. Caps are 45/40/35. Granted these last 10 levels are where PoC starts to become useful …
Do have a full set of cursed gear – dunno if gonna use it or not.
Should prolly play around in last castle to see what enemies are like.
Odds of game over in a fight have dropped to around 5%.
I hate the music in this game ._.

Moderatori'm been debating changing how the generals file works. right now it's in an ini file format, but the ini parser built into the language i'm using doesn't allow multiple (sections) with the same name etc. and yes, i know it should be brackets and not parenthesis, but the forum will eat those bits of text if i use brackets :)
so… for now it's like:
(general0)
name=cao bao
war=9
int=12
chr=11
dob=150
(general1)
etc
and generals are enumerated etc.
if you have multiple (general1)'s then one of them would get ignored. so… it's annoying for devs (er, us).
although, given that there are a folks with identical names from the time period… so it's kinda handy in that it provides an easy way to differentiate them internally. alternatively, if we insist on names being different… could possibly do something like:
(general)
name=taishi ci
asdfadsf
(general)
name=tai shi ci
asdlfkjad
Of course, for dudes whose names were only two characters/glyphs, that would pose a problem.
I don't necessarily have a problem with using enumerated stuff… and already do heh :)

ModeratorLast area, you can get 1k-3k experience per fight without too much hassle. The beginning of the cave, you get ~300-700 experience per fight. Haven't fought within Hargon's Castle to figure out an average exp yet.
With levels coming at 20-25k exp at a time, ya kinda need the boost.
Attackbots I believe are 2 attacks every turn, they hit hard, and have really high armor and decent hit points. Green Dragons also hit really hard but I don't think they get two attacks and their fire breath is a relief (especially using the 2 water flying cloth glitch). Haven't played with Hargon Knights much.
Around Rhone – Gold Batboons aren't too bad (Firebane, and party wiping Sacrifice spell), Blizzards are irritating (Defeat is a weird spell, it seems to generally not land, but when it does – it likes to take out your entire party) … but Defeat seems to do okay on them. The Cyclops/Giants type monsters are easy as pie. The Bullwongs hit twice per turn for 35ish each, or cast Explodet (60hp to PoM, 35ish to PoC and PsM). Most spells also dont' work on bullwongs :(. They do drop wizard rings though – which is real handy. I've had one drop which will make final castle attempts easier.
Inside Hargon's Castle I primarily ran into Mace Master's in my last trek through… and they are just nasty :(.
So for me, it seems to make sense to just grind in Rhone and accept the frequent game overs since there's no EXP penalty (just gold loss).
The Magic Vampirii's that drop the whatever Hat for the PoC and PsM are near the end of the Cave to Rhone. I'm not sure if how many floors I'd have to backtrack. But they're surrounded by attack bots, hargon knights, and green dragons too. Also, as far as I know – with DW2's drop rate function I'll only be able to get 1 of the Hat's. Maybe.
DW2 nes – if it's a weapon or armor and you already have one in your inventory, the end of fight resolution will just double the amount of gold you would have received (ie: so you can't get two Staff of Thunders, etc). Items (herbs, lottery tickets) you can get from monsters if you've already got one. Some places list the Hat as an item, others list it as an armor. I'm not entirely sure if the 'can drop more than one' thing is hard coded to a list of things or if its "item types only" or what. I've gotten a Dragon's Bane (item, evade some spells better) from a fight (i'm pretty sure).. and it's an "item"…

ModeratorSpent just a little bit of time grinding in Rhone after the last post.
Got Revive, yay.
Odds of survival while in Rhone appear to be between 33% and 66% depending on the game's mood. There was a time when I went 5 battles in a row without living through any of them.
Blizzards casting a 'Defeat' that wipes everyone out, Gold Batboons and 'Sacrifice', or a Bullwong that's having a bad day and decides to take it out on you.
Also ran across some Mace Masters while exploring Hargon's Castle. I forgot how much they don't like you :blackeye: — probably more than Attackbots hate you.
Haven't gone back into the cave yet. Dunno if I'll bother, I dunno.
