ModeratorSo. Through the Cave. Ran from most everything. Lost PsM. PoC had ~15MP left.
Levels are 26/24/19. Prolly too low to beat game with heh.
PoC knows defeat but not revive. PsM knows explode but not chance or open.
I'll grind in Rhone or in the Cave (Cave for the hat drop).
To correct an earlier mistake / misspoke on my part – PsM learns heal all… Dunno if PoC does.

ModeratorMM1 is downright brutal yes.
Most folks don't consider the pause glitch to be too evil. In short: electric man 3-way shooting ray + pause/unpause frequently as it passes through enemy = lots of hits on enemy. Particularly handy for the yellow demon.
MM1/MM2 do have awesome music indeed.
There are alot of good metal remixes, but… the elecman from here is mmmmmmmm:
As far as my personal experience: i rented 1 and 2 as a kid, got my ass handed to me, and i'm *STILL* afraid to play *ANY* megaman game.
Yet I have no problems beating Blaster Master or Bionic Commando or Zelda2. Shrug.

ModeratorP3's AI control was…. sigh.
With something like the SMT battle engine, dumb AI control can be devastating :(. I think in one of the later releases you gain the ability to control team mates ? Or is this a P4G or something I dunno ?
Note, I've not played P3. Not a huge fan of the Persona series, especially after 3 started the dating sim aspect :(.
The other SMT games I do like… although more from a twitch.tv voyeur respect rather than playing them personally. Been currently watching someone solo Nocturne on hard difficulty FLEXX

ModeratorIf your party doesn't have Alena in it, you're doing it wrong.
Buuuttttt… I believe for the last time I played through 4 – I stuck with 3 physical types and just used the Sage's Stone every turn myself. At least, I have a distinct recollection of doing that in dw4 or dw5 in at least one play through or something. All too fuzzy :(.
In the later games, I don't mind party members being in AI control optionally. In general, they do just fine … and healers usually make decent in game decisions towards middle-of-the-round-heal that ya can't do by specifying orders ahead of time.
Still haven't sat down and forced my way through the Cave to Rhone yet. I probably should, the XP is better on the other side for level grinding.
I'm just not looking forward to a few hours of grinding that proves only minimally helpful heh.

ModeratorI don't think I've ever seen Brey cast bikill. I know it's in his move set but… Yeah.
I can't recall what I went into Nec with. Been too long :(. I should prolly replay 4 heh.

ModeratorQuote:lol…so what is the point of it? You can save anywhere, but in actuality your last real save point is where you start?Indeed, that's the mechanics. Save in the dungeon, die, appear at the last king you visited. Or reset and load, you'll be at the last king still etc.
If the death 'tax' was more punitive, it might have a use, but other than the 'but thou must!' chick reference … its moot. Or if it was a hard to find item early game it'd be useful…
Quote:There is a Magical/Mystical Hat in Dragon Warrior III?Indeed. I know Glacier Bashers drop it (north frozen island place with just the lone wizard house on it or whatever). It doesn't restore MP, but it does reduce cost of spells by 1/5th or something like that. I don't recall if it rounds the benefit up (ie: a 2mp spell might only cost 1mp ? i don't recall). It's armor value was decent / acceptable as well IIRC.

ModeratorI think it's a 1/128 drop – and is only dropped by metal babbles. At the level I was at it took 2-3 hits by PoM to kill'em too.
It allows saving of the game from anywhere, even in a dungeon. Sadly if you die – you few pawn at the last regular save point ya did – not where ya used potion :(. It also, sadly doesn't tell you how much XP ya need to level :(. So by the time you get it – the death tax of $$$ isn't all that important.
From a story line point of view – a beautiful voice can be heard, standard save questions, I look after my descendants or something like that. So basically it's "But thou must!" Chick heh.
I know I've gotten a magical/mystical hat before. Ill be attempting to get one again although it prolly doesn't have the MP reduction feature of the dw3 version :/

ModeratorOh yeah, I did manage to get a Dragon Potion drop from metal babbles.
The only thing I've noted about it that people seem to differ on: it's usable repeatedly (not one time use).

ModeratorRe: PsM with healmore
It helps a bit… but healmore is a jyp in the NES ver. It heals only a bit more than regular 'heal'. Heal costs 2mp iirc, and healmore is 5mp iirc. In the early game, yeah, it helps. Late game… meh.
And without maxing your levels, the PoM is your damage dealer aye. The last 10 or so levels, PoC starts gaining like 8-10 STR per level, making him more useful.
I think the last time I beat it, i was somewhere around lvl 35 for PoM. I'll prolly try grinding to max this time around.

ModeratorDW2's dungeon rewards were mostly just quest items, not really equipment. The Thundersword is in the Cave to Rhone, but it's out of the way and original-nintendo-hidden :/
I don't think there's any kid of miniboss fight at the end of the cave, just an exit into Rhone with a short trek to a monolith that has free healing & revive & save point.
In regards to defeat…
PoC is your primary healer, yes – but the Princess starts with healmore and does gain antidote. PoC is the only one of the two that gains the resurrect/revive spell, though….
And, you don't get defeat until late game… and usually around then you'll start facing beserkers or green dragons a lot… which can easily kill someone if they gang up. And ,there are Blizzards in the end of the Cave or in Rhone itself … and they're weak to 'defeat'… and they also happen to cast 'defeat' … sooooo… yeah.

ModeratorFunky question.
Has there been any thoughts about counter attacks ?
If natural (constantly passive via some formula) or requires a tactic to be cast, or whatever ?
ZyloWolfBane (euh, forgot his name here on the forum) and i discussed it shortly. very shortly heh. so very shortly.
