ParticipantWell folks, I'm still chugging along on some text changes. Working slowly due to having things to do here and being cautious about the text changes not corrupting the file. I've made the officer changes, so that really changes parts of the game already and perhaps I should send LYS the updates. I'd like to hear any more feedback from late in the game, and then if some of the changes make the early parts of the game any more impossible. I think it should be ok, and perhaps even more challenging/fun. I haven't tested much of the early game as of yet as I have been trying to work on text with the small amount of time that I've had. I will get to it very soon.
Not seeing Lu Bu until Wu attacks will be interesting… Hua Xiong gets to shine as the bruiser… Of course, I could make Fan Chou level, too. With his 220 Str, that would allow for another reliable bruiser.

ParticipantNow we know where Huo Hu's powder went…

ParticipantWell, Niahak, I got rid of the corrupted file already. I'm sorry. There wasn't much work lost, about an hour or so of work. It corrupted the file so badly that neither the Text editor or the regular editor would even open the ROM, nor would Nestopia.
What I am doing now is editing a copied version. After a few changes, I am saving them, and if they are successful, I am changing it over to the new ROM. Its a bit of a tedious process, but I am being cautious. I want to make it good. Sigh, I already have the Yuan Shao mod to compete with, lol… Mine seems much harder though… I'm blowing right through his.

ParticipantI beat Lu Bu easily enough without Scorch. He's a heavy hitter, though, no doubt about it. I had Chen Lin healing nearly every turn.

ParticipantWell, managed to corrupt my main file while working on text changes. Any suggestions why that likely happened? Luckily, I didn't get too awfully far. I can download again from here, make my officer changes… and start again. I'll try to keep better backups this time.
cabalpapa
Participantcould someone email me the ROM? I can't seem to use whatever site that is linked to. chapman_andrew_j at yahoo

ParticipantWow, I'm betting this is going to blow my Dong Zhuo mod out of the water… I'm still making changes to mine. Might have run into a snag today using the text editor. Hopefully didn't screw too much up.
cabalpapa
ParticipantOf course I am using custom stats! Jia Xu originally in mine is a 120/245/170 and shows up in Xu Zhe's spot. I've made him slightly better upon his return… and tweeked Li Ru a little. And boosted Hua's strength to give him some early game.
cabalpapa
ParticipantThese are good ideas, but that would make Jia beastly (not exactly a bad thing). Technically, Jia would be the only one returning in the above scenario.
I'm going to make some changes today, along with fixing a couple things that were wrong from before (Sima Yi's defense, making Chunyu Qiong and Lu Yi recruitable, and I think a couple others). I didn't get a chance to work on text much at all this week. I was busier than planned. I can do some this weekend, and have some updated material maybe even by tonight.
Getting to work!
cabalpapa
ParticipantHmmm, except that would take out Du Yu and Deng Ai… making the flavor better, but seemingly weaker. I'll look into it!

ParticipantHere are a couple possible ideas that I thought of. Li Ru and Lu Bu could be replaced with other early court officials and/or Hu Zhen. They could then join in after Shu. Possible replacements could be Zhong Lao, Wang Yun, Xin Pi and Ping, or a couple others whose names are escaping me. I could move Cai Yong and Hua Xiong up to the main 2 slots, and maybe buff Hua up a little. (as a side note, if Lu Bu was replacing Hua Xiong, I could have Hua say something about not finding Lu Bu as feeble as himself, lol)
Instead of Cao Pi joining as a twist in the story line, I could have Jia Xu rejoin them there. I would then have to make a replacement for where Jia is, but that could easily be Cao Pi or any other number of people. Plenty of late Wei/early Jin strategists I haven't used.
If I did this, I could make Lu Bu un-AnSha-able. This would start to give a late game party that resembles Dong's forces a bit more. It would seem to weaken the initial stages a bit, but if I push Hua's stats a little, he more or less replaces Lu Bu, and another strategist like Zhong Yao or Wang Yun could seemingly replace Li Ru's role as delegated strategist.
This could theoretically create an end game party of Du Yu, Deng Ai, Jia Xu, Lu Bu, Li Ru, and Zuo Ci. If I boosted Zuo's INT a couple points to let him acquire Jin Xian, that fixes a good bit and gives the end game a better Dong Zhuo feel.
What do you think?
cabalpapa
ParticipantHow and where do you guys play these Dynasty Warrior games? do you have the respective systems or do you play them through ROM/emulator?
cabalpapa
ParticipantYes, I have it and play it often enough. Honestly, one of my favorite games ever was RoTK 9. I used to play that game for hours on end. I had to get rid of my PS2 to pay the rent a year or so ago, so I no longer have access to the game. 2 and 4 are decent. There was another one, either 10 or 11, also for PS2 that had an interesting approach that you got to play any general and play according to that generals rank, whether it be peon or emperor. That one was fun, but different.
I agree that I thought I nailed Li Ru. I thought I made Cai Yong quite attractive as well.
Would you prefer a boost to Zuo Ci's power? Perhaps Dong Min? I mean, Dong Min was such a chump… I thought I made him pretty powerful for who he was and interestingly useful for a while. I could arrange to have Lu Bu through to the end, but I'd have to make him un-AnSha-able, and that just kinda seems against the whole point.
cabalpapa
ParticipantThank you for the feedback. James uses 255 for Zuo Ci in his mods, making all damage = 1. That being said, I'll have to let up on it. I'm going to go through and make some changes before I start hitting text. I want to see if I can manage getting one or two specific Dong Zhuo guys in there, but his history trails off so much for obvious reasons. The idea behind some of the generals were a "what if" scenario, insinuating Dong could have had these generals if he reached this point.
I definately made some of the marquee generals in the later stages un-AnSha-able…
I'll go back through this and see if I can find some tweeks that can be made to help this. I think the most obvious change is to Li Ru. I could bump Zuo Ci to give him access to Jin Xian… that would help.
I designed that last battle to be near impossible. I actually lowered some troop counts from the original generals, already knowing it was going to be next to impossible. I stand ready to tweek that battle to make it easier…
LYS, I will be honest with you… since I only play these games on emulator/ROM version anymore… I consider save states to be inherent in the game. =)
I will go through and make some changes soon, and get some new work to you soon, along with a post regarding changes. Then I will get to text. If I had access to changing portraits and inserting ones from other games, that would be awesome. Inserting ones from RotK would be great, too.
On a slightly other topic, are there any RotK mods out there? Like 1 or something, anything anyone has ever managed to change around?
cabalpapa
ParticipantYou might start to pull ahead of me, as I am going out to the waterpark today (too hot here on the East coast)… That being said, I already know what is in store… I'll get some done tonight and keep testing, but then I really need to start hitting some of the changes that need to be made, and working on text to start to complete the story/game. Portraits will come last, lol… they are time consuming and annoying.
