ModeratorQuote:Just beat Lu Bu at Guangzhong Castle. Definitely need 'Doubt' to have a chance, and then just hope he stays in Doubt status for a while. Then I went and beat up Jin Xuan and Tiger Wang, doing the same Doubt trick. I'd like to get Mislead but again, I couldn't find Liu Ye and instead of Mislead, Xu Shu gets Zeal (aka Bei Ji, attack power increase). That's still nice because then I use it on whoever has the Trident and they do ~600 damage. Mislead is just so valuable in these tough mods though, what-with the massive attacks some of these guys have.Try Chen Deng or Mi Zhu again.
Quote:Going to Ji Zhou now. How far along is this mod anyway? Edits through the end?Its actually done, but being refined. Up through Wei atm. There was a game breaker I found in WU, so I'm reuploading a new one. Make sure to keep your game current!
Quote:One more thing. On the way to Ji Zhou, I see you added an extra gate (plus the wall stuff at the north end of that snowy area is pretty cool). But anyway, that extra gate you added after Guangzhong I just walked right through; was there supposed to be an enemy there??Just esthetic value atm. Dont know how to script in battles atm.

ModeratorQuote:I personally don't like all the one hit kills. I mean Lu Bu has a friggin halberd in the Dong Zhuo area. What is he on major steroids with Zhuge Liang making his weapons or something? That's just ridiculous. You should at least have a fighting chance not to get 1 hit killed. I don't think his AP should be above 80 for chapter 2 and even 80 is borderline ridiculous. Resurrect shopping before every battle gets annoying. Just my 2 cents.Think of it as an "early game AnSha" for the AI :P Actually there are only a handful of battles like this in the game and it definately changes the "always win every battle on the first try" which I didn't really like about a lot of DOAE. It mixes the game up a little bit. Again though, there are only a handful of ones like this, obviously, with the most around the beginning there.

Moderatorsorry about Huo hu. I can make him a tactician but still wont beef him up INT wise. You will understand as you go through the rom more, but adjusting soldier count is an idea.
Quote:Didn't see who you had at Luo Yang in Wang Gui's spot (he was gone, which he is sometimes).you seem to be having a lot of disappearing characters, you might be missing iron ore or something later.
Quote:Just recruited Lu Bu. 1000 soldiers, wow. Now I don't have to deal with him one-hit killing all my guys. At Luo Yang the fucker had 11 soldiers left and one-hit killed Zhang Fei who had max soldiers (389) and the best armor possible lol. You really gotta hit like 2-3 scorch's every turn against Lu Bu in that battle to get rid of him fast. Thankfully Dong Zhuo wasn't as potent.ehehe, yeah that was the plan. I always felt you could almost never die in most DOAE battles.

Moderator<- Professional program smasher (crasher)
text editor still crashes when switching between different text lines.
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

ModeratorSounds good, i was thinking the same thing
sonic.penguin
ModeratorActually, releasing it 'before' completion really helps to refine it. The mod I am working on is twice what it was when it was first released it a week ago, but having people get their hands on it and offer feedback really helps to hammer out the rough edges that you don't see when you're making it.

Moderatorhehe, once I was a moderator for an online game, and the questions people spam you with are so incessant that you wind up never talking to anyone and quit because its all too much work. In other words, congratulations on your promotions :D

ModeratorCool. Numbering starts at 4 and D, is this on purpose? Just wondering. Also can you put numbering on the main UI as well. It helps when editing two regions next to each other where you need to connect roads/river/leave open space.
Going in the right direction, i like it

ModeratorQuote:One thing I've noted is that I gained levels fast, I got to level 8 real quick (with Ye Huo / Scorch which cheapens the game for a while). Nan Hua and his ~630 soldiers are probably a big part of that since EXP is directly attributed to soldier count.Yeah, this was intentional as you will need Scorch pretty soon after the YT area anyways, plus the beginning sometimes drags because you have to grind so much. Did you get your gift from Tao Qian?
Quote:Sonic.penguin, I'll tell you one thing that you maybe don't know. In this forum, Huo Hu is worshiped like a godsorry hehe, but needed balancing. You should have more then enough TP to compensate due to a TP boost
Quote:still think Huo Hu needs to be a tactician lol. It's throwing me off because I have to carry Chen Deng's weak ass around longer than I want. Plus Huo Hu with no tactics in a DoaE mod is basically like creating a Si Ma Yi with no tacticsThere is a purpose to this, read above :S
Still dont know what is going on with that bridge/battle, im stumped.
sonic.penguin
ModeratorDont know why the brigand dissappeared??? I'll have to check into that. Yes, Huo Hu is not a tactician :) Just a balanced add-in char.
sonic.penguin
Moderatorglad to hear it, keep me posted!

ModeratorQuote:back then, we basically just switched generals and maybe did some level adjusting but that's about itactually, that's how this mod started out, in fact the one I emailed you was basically a switch of Pang Tong to Lu Bu and that Pang Tong was assassinated by Lu Bu! There were just a few minor dialogue changes in addition to a battle change or two and that was it.
I decided to then take the whole mod in a different direction and broaden the scope of the mod to more than just a battle or two. Thanks to MidKnights recommendations as well as some others, its really starting to shape up.
My favorite part has actually been editing the text and coming up with better/more interesting dialogue in addition to making battles more unique. After testing a few mods out there, I think what really makes a mod is more than just flipping characters, its about creating a whole new story and reason to keep playing vintage 89 DOAE.

ModeratorSuggestion. can you add to the mini map editor some line names grid names. Ie: Row 1 column A, get what i mean? Kind of like an excel document labeling of cells.

ModeratorAwesome, the minimap selection tool makes it so much easier to go from region to region rather than having to scan through almost 300 sections for the right one. Awesome update, love it! I'll let you know about any bugs ASAP.
Also, if you made no changes to the text editor, there were a lot of crashes I experienced in it. The only stable one seems to be the standalone version.
