ModeratorFYI, Rise of Lu Bu was released in version 3.0 in 2013 which included massive game updates, story changes, and battle balancing.

ModeratorBest Story line/Text Modifications:
Yuan Shao Mod: All new story, great modifications to the original game and a pioneer in DOAE modding.Best Map Modifications:
Yuan Shu Mod, although quirky, still has some great map modifications with “potential”Best Battle System / Tactic Modifications:
This isn’t a mod, but a functionality by MiDKnighT that is currently bugged, but the ability to program officer types/profiles with different weapon/tactic types. Would be awesome if it worked for a profile other than “Officer”.Best Difficulty Modifications:
Yuan Shao Mod going under a revamp with it’s difficulty has definately stepped up since its previous incarnations.Best Portraits:
Only competetitor out there in my opinion currently is the Yuan Shao Mod.Best ROM Tool:
Although incomplete, (and currently bugged), DOAEditor w/ shop, tactic, and profile modificationBest ROM Enhancement:
It’s between menu modification and the currently bugged officer profiles by MiDKnighT.Best Comedy in a Mod:
“Cao Cao slap Cao Hong!”… need I say more?ROM of the Year: My nomination is still the Yuan Shao Mod

I’m going to see if I can advance into Cao Cao’s territory in your mod and not get rocked. I need to make better use of the tactics. Duel seems fun to use but then it can be a waste when no one dies and then I just wasted a Lu Bu turn when he’s my best attacker. And like I said before the battles go so much faster with more damage being done that it’s hard to afford that, because a wasted duel puts you behind the 8 ball as far as your soldiers vs. their’s.
Well, duel is meant to be an early-on “rocker” tactic for Lu Bu that becomes less game-breaking later on in the game. While still an option, I still wanted the game to relegate to a more strategy based game while still having the fun usage of dueling. It would just feel cheap if you dueled your way to victory through the whole game so if you REALLY want to duel someone, you better hope you come out on top, especially end-game. Its just a BIG risk.

ModeratorWell, you still have to leave the text identical, you can’t just use the event ID. It something like [INN-COST-LEVEL] that needs to be in the dialogue box for it to work properly in addition to the [EVENT-XXXX]

Cool man. Defend would actually be useful if it resulted in an improved defense when people actually used it. But restoring TP sounds decent too.
It does both. It restores TP and casts Guard/Protect for 1 turn on the player that uses it, effectively cutting physical/tactic damage in half + restoring TP. Great tanking skill
You got documentation on this anywhere? I’m not seeing it on the DoaE Hacking Guide. Definitely useful. Though there are some times where it’s nice to equip something and automatically get out of the menu afterwards but instead I have to press B again to get out. But the benefits out weight the negatives.
This was created in a thread where Lud and Midknight were tinkering around with stuff around the same time the menu colors were created. Granted, there isn’t much documentation on that one either as I personally would like to know how to change colors more easily.
For sure. How do I do the Inn again? Is that a certain event? I saw Xu Yuan listed it in the events but he said it cost like 65083 gold or some crazy shit.
Ever notice how gold increases as castle’s progress? Well all the inn’s use the same event, but it depends on how the castle/fort is “classified”. This is accesible in the 1.3 (broken) patch where you can assign weapon/item shop profiles per castle. Just experiment with the Inn code on specific sprites, inside and outside of the castles/forts because it’s pretty random throughout the game. For example, I put an “inn” officer @ hu lao gate in Flames of Wu and it costs 1000+ coins to rest there, but if I put it in the house, it costs 7 coins (1 per officer)
I just remember the ugly ass Lu Bu portrait :D With a malformed face lol. Looks a ton better.
Ouch! :huohu:

ModeratorAh, the music runs just like the hex as far as battle ID’s. WHile it seems that Suan Quan battle is actually 11 battles behind when using DOAEditor, you have to keep in my that hex is base 16. In other words, Sun Quan’s battle is 17 battle’s behind the Sima Yi battle. So when changing the Yuan Shao ambush battle, which I believe is near the end of the list, you need to go to the next hex value which would be ’48’ to put in the “special music” array found at 3E1F7 or 7E1F7 in the expanded version. Currently it is “36, 47, FF, FF, FF, FF, FF, FF” so just replace one of the FF’s with 48 and it should work.

ModeratorIm starting to play it and bit confusion but i love it
Sorry, the limited amount of data available for dialogue and the difficulty adding it along with all the HUGE changes makes it hard to follow to a bit, but I hope that you can deduce your way through the game. Those with knowledge of some ROTK will have an easier time.
Damn, impressive.
So many things I haven’t seen yet from being out of the loop for a year. Music changes. Text color changes. Equipping items doesn’t go out of the screen, allowing you to equip more. Defend is now focus – does that mean attack is higher after choosing focus and then attack the next turn? I need to read the DoaE Hacking Guide completely lol…I assume this is all on there.
Equipping multiple items at once was on a lot of people’s request list so I’m also glad for that one. Focus is a TP regeneration/defense tool that was made to prevent all of the return trips to the INN and actually give a reason to DEFEND! I have expanded the TP pool into the mid 200’s so FOCUS tends to get phased out more near the end-game since TACTIC cost begins to get huge and regeneration is slower, but it is still useful.
What is the advantage of naming a tactician, when each person has their own tactics? Just for the max TP points for the dude with the highest INT?
MidKnighT phased out the need for any tactician in his mods, but I felt that I wanted the TP gains still but could control the flow of TP a player could use at certain points in the game, kind of like a handicap. ROLB 3.0 is a lot more forgiving than my original versions if you recall.
Was struggling to find a place to rest, I see the lady does that now.
Cool portraits as always and I like the custom Lu Bu sprite with the headgear addition.
Looks like the starting point is almost exactly where I have it for Dong Zhuo’s mod.
Yeah, more rest/billeting points just keep the game flowing and make return trips to town less tedious.
Glad you like the portraits, they constitute at least half of the time needed to make the mod. I figured Lu Bu needed his own modded sprite as well with a big…. BIG weapon :P
I tried to orient the map to what was more historical as well. I believe his starting point was north of Ye at least in ROTK, almost in Mongolia, so yeah, I figured it would be a “different” place to start.
Love hearing the ending music in the throne rooms.
Cool deal with Ding Yuan at the end of the Turban stuff. I knew that was coming :).
Yeah, the changing of music really makes it feel different. Just wish I could change the battle music as well.
No kidding… how did you know that would happen to Ding Yuan!?
Found one grammatical error – Lu Bu says “repayed” instead of repaid after the Tao Qian praying scene.
Hah, go figure, I guess I missed that one. Thanks for the heads up, will have to fix.
Really nice having dudes around to allow you to rest or act as billeting.
I know one of the big hold ups for me when I was modding a year or two ago was that I couldn’t find how to edit the villagers other than in Lou Sang. Now I see you found that info for each place? I’ll have to do that to add billeting, recruit guys, etc.
Dong Zhuo at Xu Zhou I can see you had changed one of the villagers to Dong Zhuo and placed him in front. I believe you switched out the girl on the west end of town who normally tells you to equip stuff.
Anyway, for now I just used the Gullwing to Xia Pi. Using Lu Bu, Zhang Liao, Gao Shun, Huo Hu and now I suppose I’ll be using either Chen Gong or Diao Chan.
Yeah. I made a list simply because I HATED searching through the ROM every time I needed to replace a villager, which I did much more extensively in Flames of Wu. I added tons more control over the officers that were recruited and made them more or less like events with specific dialogue rather than just random encounters to build the army all the time. It made it feel much more like an RPG, so I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on that when you get around to it. The first 3 chapters got completely revamped from my original mod. Thanks for the feedback LYS

ModeratorYeah, as far as I know 2.1.5 or 2.2.1 seem to work fine w/ the more recent roms. Let me know what you think of ROLB 3.0 and Flames of Wu :cactuar:
sonic.penguin
ModeratorActually, I used that some technique in the Flames of Wu mod especially where Yuan Shu jips your party on food. Food in the cave is a fix if you REALLY want it.
sonic.penguin
ModeratorOnly FCE 2.1.5 or higher
sonic.penguin
ModeratorHooray! Now you don’t have to wait until you’re at home to play Rise of Lu Bu 3.0! :LiuBei:
