ModeratorA few issues w/ the mod:
*In the opening sequence they guy mentions Yellow Scarves, then Yellow Turbans about 2 sentences later.
*The colors are really funky for towns. Makes me feel really… groovy :hook: but they’re also kind of hard on the eyes.
*The people are… red! Maybe consider doing some touch ups on the colors in paint?
*gold…coins = at the end of every battle is annoying!
*Not sure which way to go first, there seem to be many routes to go, but it definitely takes a lot of grinding up front not to get clobbered by people. I walked east to a gate, got killed. Then walked south to a castle, got killed. Walked into a cave and the level of the guys kept me retreating all the way through it just to get out alive with 3 officers left.
*Now my armies are starving…
*Can’t seem to scratch the Hu/Qiang tribe before my party gets destroyed, I even have Li Su w/ 400 guys, but now I have 10 gold, 246 food which won’t last me back to the gate, and 2 officers I don’t have the money to resurrect. This mod is brutal..
*Getting gold/exp is really hard vs. these guys, I keep losing my officers
*Can’t afford resurrects at the rate my guys are dying…
*Powdr should be Powder
*Finally got all my guys revived, down to 79 gold, 0 food…. will have to try fighting inbetween starvation.
*Tried a final try to beat the Qiang with 300 food to get me there. I got them down to 1 officer and my army was wiped out. Now I have a whole army dead, no money, no food, and I can’t beat the first gate. I’m gonna break from this mod as there are some major issues that need to be addressed.My *FIX* suggestion: Up the amount of food, gold, and experienced gained in this area if you’re going to leave the first battles so hard. All of the officers here just spank you and it’s impossible to keep up with that amount of depletion. Until this mod gets some work, I probably won’t be playing it again anytime soon.

ModeratorA Romhacking guide change was done because the current officer stat system using: LDR, POL, etc is broken. I added the original version of the item drop code for coding along with some notes on the version that MiDKnighT created for use with POL.

Party leader's POL attribute affects how often items are dropped. If your party leader has higher POL you will get more item drops.

Helpful tips to make Battle Spoils work for you
1. You can make all drops more or less common. The value to change is in this instruction:

I have tested this algorithm, and it will not bork the game if you don’t have any space to put the item; it will just scream at you with the default message saying that you don’t have any more room.

ModeratorFirst of all, I like how the forum is actually running decently nowadays. I think everyone went on hiatus when the website wasn’t loading. At any rate, I noticed an issue with posting link/images, etc. When you paste the link the box that appears with the image for example, it automatically pastes your link at the bottom of the page. Any way to have this paste wherever the cursor is currently at on the page?
It’s just really annoying when editing pages on the Romhacking guide because you lose your spot in the pages of text if you paste an image using the code.

Sorry for the delayed response on this one, but you need to have the INN text there otherwise it prices it beyond reason.

What address is the ppu editable for the blue/white mixture?
If you bring up the PPU Viewer in FCEUX, you’ll see the palettes at the bottom of the window. Those correspond to PPU Memory addresses 0x3f00-3f1f.
You can find the Status/Army/Battle screen palettes in the DoaE ROM at 0x7c687-0x7c696.

ModeratorI think there is an issue w/ the Cao Cao Mod by James. I even tried an old version of DOAEditor then applying an old IPS patch 1.2… no luck, still get the above error. I think the coding was a LOT different when it was created.
BUT there is a problem with the current IPS 1.2 patch. I expanded a clean rom via DOAEditor, then applied the current IPS patch 1.2 1 then 2 and got an error in DOAEditor when trying to mod it.
So either I’m patching it wrong, or there is an IPS issue.

ModeratorHeh, “if” is the key here as I’m still a little hung up on how its going to be made. If i just carbon copied the “Cao Cao Mod” and just inserted new graphics and applied IPS patch 1.2 and called it a day that would be one option. The other would be trying to make a new game with new maps, battles, focal points of the game, and such. You know

ModeratorYeah, photoshop, but I could just as easily use paint. What makes the portraits turn out better and not so “blocky” is by lining up the pixels corner to corner rather than side by side/top to bottom. With The FCE blur effects, they come out really good using that method.

ModeratorWell it did cross my mind actually. I just didn’t know how people would feel as I like to do total conversion mods which would also affect the storyline, order in which kingdoms are fought, etc. One thing I always wondered how he changed is making the officer who delivers the message about Yuan Shu into a recruit event because when I tried that it glitched so it had to have been more than just inserting [EVENT-E91C].
I was actually thinking of starting this mod ‘post’ Yellow Turbans since from what I understand Liu Bei’s armies took care of Cheng Yuanzhi and that crew, not Cao Cao, this way I can insert the battle with Lu Bu’s armies and such. What are you guys’ ideas? I’m still just tossing around ideas and have only been playing around with starting points and game progression a bit.
A much ‘crisper’ version of Zhang Liao has been made as well.

(2) To avoid being influenced, I don’t play other mods. I wouldn’t want to accidentally borrow things from other mods.
That’s a bunch of Huo Hu Powder if I ever saw it! Actually, I’ve got a ton of ideas I ripped off of other people’s mods that “worked”. Why reinvent the wheel, the axle, and the armadillo? If it works, by all means use it! In retrospect, my earliest mods were major suckage… It was only after I played other mods like Ludmeister’s Remix, Yuan Shao’s Revenge, the Yuan Shu Mod, and even the crappy Lu Bu Mod which totally overstatted people (but made me realize how I needed to balance my own mods) all helped me make changes to dialogue, maps, tactics, and more! :LiuBei:
