ModeratorYeah, that’s my impression too. Feels a bit too mechanical, and high-LDR wipes out everyone else.

ModeratorDay 2 impressions:
1) 2 weapons per character makes this game possible.
2) WTF. 4 floors in the first dungeon? Preparing to enter this place isn’t like prepping for a dungeon, it’s like mounting an expedition into a vast hostile wilderness.
3) Come to think of it, why am I helping this Darun guy anyway? Aren’t I on official marine/hunter/gov’t business?
4) Comparative analysis:
Scenario: You just went one direction at a fork ended up at a dead end.
Wild Arms: "Good work, explorer! You deserve a treasure chest." *poof*
Suikoden: "Aha! You have found the ultra-hidden 104th character who will not join you until you find the first 103!"
Phantasy Star: "You took a wrong turn, numbskull." *slap* "Try again. Oh, and by the way, you might’ve taken a wrong turn 3 forks ago, too. Good luck finding your way back!"

ModeratorStarted this game today since it was released on Virtual Console and I was bored of the new Nobunaga’s Ambition. Played 2 hours. Nearly got wiped out in the first dungeon, as Rolf kicked the bucket and I didn’t have any escape-stuff.
Impressions so far:
1) Just now, checked a FAQ briefly because the VC manual has absolutely nothing on weapon types. Holy crap, you can equip 2 weapons per character? I mean, sure, it implies you could do it but I didn’t seriously expect it would do anything good.
2) Man, guns suck. 350 Metas for less damage than my 100-meta knife, *and* it’s 2-handed?
3) Nei is the best character in my party so far. I suppose Rolf is supposed to be a caster… But Rudolf seems worthless as much except a tank.
More perhaps tomorrow.

ModeratorThere were noised about Uncharted Waters Online coming stateside a couple years back. I can’t imagine an MMO feeling quite as nice as the original set.
I wouldn’t mind seeing some of the newer ones though. New Horizons was pretty good.

ModeratorI don’t think you get anything good for the Insector stuff. Probably just another costume, but I didn’t do it myself so I can’t say for sure.
Actually, the easiest way to beat the Insector tournaments is with one of the rewards you get for the 100-level secret dungeon… I think it took me around 5 hours to beat. You get a fruit you can use to get the best insector.
I messed around only a bit with the Insector tournaments. If I’d gotten more into them and caught insectors as I went in the normal game maybe they would’ve been more fun.

ModeratorMan, I love Aerobiz. I’ve been waiting for Koei to create a new one with full-fledged officer management like the RTKs (i.e. this manager is good at negotiating airport shares, another one is good at optimizing routes or some such).
Yeah, Tehran was terrible in that second scenario. There was no reason in the first (at least) to go with any of the lesser cities – all you got was higher difficulty, really.
Never owned a copy of Supersonic – only played it a bit, I think if I’d gotten a chance to play it more

ModeratorI think so far I’m torn between 2 and 5.
1’s was too rock-paper-scissors.
2’s was mostly good but felt too random. I loved how you could pick-and-choose units, though.
3’s was quite exploitable with firefly, but gets brownie points for being based on your actual characters – finally a reason to have more than 15 good chars!
4’s had too wide a disparity between good and bad chars and felt too basic after 3’s. Compared to the rest of the game, though, it was pretty good
5’s was quite good except (as LYS said) it got way too tough to track what was going on. Some imbalance here too – give Zerase one of the suppliers and use Star a few times…
For strat battles I think 5 was a good step. If the next one’s turn-based but otherwise similar I’ll be quite happy, or if they cut down some timing issues. Additional complexity wouldn’t hurt, either :)
And yeah, beavers were funny to use in the water.

ModeratorTime to find out if the forum supports East Asian characters. I think so.
/edit: Oh god, that’s painful. It may not in the sidebar.
It should be
インデェアナ
I’m seeing
<#12452;<#12531;<#12487;<#12455;<#12450;<#12490;
replace < with &
Yeah, it’s not looking promising. I remember seeing this on another PHPBB board, too… subjects and side stuff doesn’t support it.

ModeratorI bet he was just a randomized character. Lots of those.
I do like GK2, though. If only it had better randomization and a bit more variety…

ModeratorSorry, I’m a bit late too!
Happy Birthday LYS!

Moderator3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11
Of them I think I like 9 the best, 11 looks almost as good but I haven’t played it enough to know for sure.

ModeratorMan, I want
Zhu Ge 00000000000000000
in my party :)
This is some really cool stuff. Sometimes the inadvertent effects are almost as fun as the intended ones.

ModeratorAedis Eclipse! So that was the PSP SRPG I heard about that sounded sort of interesting.
How is it? That and Tactics, and to a lesser extent Jeanne have been tempting me to get a PSP…
Niahak
ModeratorOnce you get them to rank 10, though, they don’t mind anymore.

ModeratorSuikoden 3’s the least expensive of the pre-4s… it’s also the second longest (5 was a bit longer, I think). But I find it the most replayable for some reason. It has the most difficult fights, some of which are winning-optional (win/lose is same storywise, but you get extra items for winning :D)
I’m on the fence between it and 1 as no. 2 overall.
