ModeratorQuote:Well, I don't have a special Php or anything. Just downloaded the big Php folder that MiDKnighT had posted here. Then put every file you need in that folder (the portraits, sprite, rom, etc). Go to Windows – Run – cmd. Then you should have access to use Feidian and then…php feidian.php -ci nes8,1,1008,0×70090 newsprites1.bmp yuanshumod.nes
Post me that link will ya? :) Does your sprite table REPLACE the current sprite tables or add to them? Do the new sprites also appear in Niahaks editor or do they not pull from the rom?

ModeratorIt took a lot of tinkering, but got it to work. Heres the thing. I made multi-zeal to be @ a cost of 20 TP… now before you think thats too low, I moved Gui Han to be learned around Dong Zhou area which makes it useful since $$ is low for gullwings, and replaced Gui Han w/ Jie Ce for a late game strategy changer. Since bei ji can now be negated, I had to make it less cost TP wise.
Most people now use AnSha + savestae
Also it makes battles move faster and Zeals officers who would otherwise be too stupid to use it, making those brawn no brains officers semi-useful.

The bonus battle you wont be able to get though. FYI i stripped pointers from the Hua Xiong battle which you already beat, sorry, but tough banannas, wont be accessable unless you start a new game. It is REALLY a surprise as to its location :). The Zuo Ci one is the only other one I have in place atm but youre just a glutton for punishment if you already whooped him.
I have been thinking about removing the Luo yang gate fights upon your first trek through Dong Zhuo area as some people have suggested there is too much walking back and forth for that area. Let me know what you think.
I dont know HOW you beat the Sima Yi battle, I actually went back and changed it to make it easier by lowering their DEF, otherwise it'd just be praying for a lucky AnSha or a savestate fest :P
Im gearing up to start a second ROM but only once MidKnight gets me set up with some good software to load more neat-o portraits and LYS explains to me how to use some new sprites :)
I appreciate your input for this ROM and look forward to your thoughts as a whole on it.

ModeratorQuote:You said Shui Xing but I'm not sure I know that's actually was it, would you explain to me why you know it was Shui Xing? And will please tell me how to find the right address for Zeal, I'd like to make it hit all allied generals just once use.
This multi-zeal is a function in my mod currently, took some playing around with to get. You know it is Shui Xing by using the list above where this is posted. First 5 tactics @ the address are the 5 fire tactics. The next 5 are Water Tactics. Then comes healing. Then comes others.
Below is what it means:
Tactic ORDER chart
01 Lian Huo, Ye Huo, Yan Re, Da Re, Huo Shen
06 Shui Tu, Shui Xing, Shui Lei, Hong Shui, Shui Long
0b Chi Xin, Tong Xian, Yin Xian, Jin Xian, Wan Fu
10 Ji Rou, Huo Jian, Shui Jian, Ce Mian, Ji Mian
15 Cheng Nei, Yi Xin, Li Jian, Qi Shou, Jie Ce
1a An Sha, Bei Ji, Fu Bing, Tui Lu, Gui Huan
From the Hacking FAQ
Quote:In 0x3bb3f-0x3bc30, a good share of data is stored describing the effects of all the tactics.0x3bb3f-0x3bb5c- How to target the tactic
80 80 00 80 00 80 80 80 00 00 01 01 00 00 01
00 00 00 00 00 00 80 80 01 00 80 01 80 00 00
In this list, the 7th slot would be Shui Xing by counting using the Tactic order chart. Midknight should really label this stuff hehe. First slot is Lian Huo, 5th slot is Huo Shen. 10th slot is Shui Long, etc. So if Im counting right, Shui Xing should be at 3BB45 but this only affects targeting, you still have to change the other value which is "Target all"

Moderatorin programs such as photoshop you can "flip" sections so you wouldnt have to redraw them. Just select, copy, flip horizontal, move to the appropriate section, save. If I took some time to stop updating the ROLB mod and actually read up on this, could probably find an easy way to do this, but then again, more portraits need added as well! arrgh, the choices, too much good stuff all at once here!

ModeratorQuote:Ya I'm supposed to be working todayhehe
Here is the issue with loading 8 Tactics that I can see thus far.
1. Severe imbalance which was mentioned earlier.
2. The extra tactics would have to be pretty cheap in usefulness such as Gui Han, Tui Lu (Escape), Huo Jian, Shui Jian, Jie Ce etc. MAYBE Mislead/Doubt but that might be pushing it.
3. Tactics like Bei Ji, Ji Rou, Ji Mian, Ce Mian, AnSha, WanFu, Jin Xian should never be moved unless you switch their INT values to flip flop what 'type' of tactician can use them. But ZGL with AnSha? or SimaYi? Would just be a save-hack fest then.
4. The issue with more tactics also causes a problem of Enemy officers spamming useless tactics ie: they use Huo Jian like 5 times in a row and dont attack x 5 officers = stupid battle.
5. Also you would have to adjust menu sizes to accomodate in the stat screens.
Now that it wouldnt be useful to know how to do this but it just doesn't seem viable for a balanced mod.
ALSO
Maybe its just me, but most of the DOAE2 sprites look like theyre LEANING forward…

ModeratorYes the issue was with the intentional and now release of Jie Ce for Gui Han, costing a whopping 50 only to be negated would essentially make it unfeasable to even use. Again, providing an alternative to Anshaing everyone has been one of the main goals of this mod as you know I always found to make the game just a save-state hack fest, eliminating gameplay, but I didn't want to remove it altogether.
Plus, now I dont have to make every officer a 240 int. officer just to zeal them. The new multi-zeal now covers a lot of issues with underpowered/unintelligent officers and will get battles moving sooner/faster and make them harder. Have tried to fix a lot of issues with DOAE that were just generally slowing it down from battle menus/trading menus/tactics/unneccessary dialogue etc. I found guard to be almost overpowering especially when combined with Wan Fu/Revive. Essentially making battles near-impossible if more than 1 officer had Wan Fu.
Quote:severely reducing tp cost of the damage inducing spells would make it more viable, but prolly throws the balance way out of whack… particularly for the mid to early late game.Yeah, this one was hard to manage. Actually Huo Shen and Shui Long have been slightly reduced in TP cost ( I think 1 tp?) And AnSha has been upped to 15 which is currently the same cost as Zeal. might change that though…
sonic.penguin
Moderatorthe zeal-all I thought would eliminate something EVERYONE does for every battle for every person, just tried to eliminate some repetetiveness since I wanted to make Jie Ce more useful by putting it as an end game tactic. Actually, I have found Gui Han to be VERY useful early on in the game which is its new placement.
Can you imagine getting everyone individually zealed only to be negated the next turn? This is the only way I could figure out to make that LESS annoying + have an actual counter to Evade rather than waiting it out turn after turn, all at the expense of TP hence the TP bonus. Might up the TP cost of zeal from 15 to 25. What do you think?
Quote:The placement of that Gan Ning battle is evil…what can i say? oh wait… bwahahahaha!

Moderatorhehe, good luck, I hope to tweak those special ones once the "regular game" gets set up right.

ModeratorUpdate AGAIN!
*Learn Return SOONER and Negate LATER. Save on Gullwings early on :)
*Bei Ji cost upped a bit since it now targets the WHOLE party.
*Once again made Doubt available as well
*Bug fix with Tiger Wang grrrr!
*Huo Hu now once again a tactician due to popular demand in this update! :huohu:
*Higher officer INT in many areas.
*Fixed general bugs
*Change in officer tactics
*Change in areas some officers are recruited in.
*Fixed a bug where I accidentally copied over an event code (whoops!)
*Now that agility is visible and I understand how it works/some officers level up agility, it is getting a LOT more tweaking.

10 Ji Rou, Huo Jian, Shui Jian, Ce Mian, Ji Mian
15 Cheng Nei, Yi Xin, Li Jian, Qi Shou, Jie Ce
1a An Sha, Bei Ji, Fu Bing, Tui Lu, Gui Huan
As each variable is discussed, I'll display the stock ROM's data, to illustrate further what it means. Tactic availability is determined by four separate variables, found in 0x3b881-3b90d in the ROM, as follows:
0x3b881-0x3b89e- Tactic ID learned at level up (1st ID for level 2… last is level 31)
01 11 06 0b 15 18 02 12 07 19 1c 0c 03 08 0d
10 1b 16 17 09 04 0f 14 1d 1e 1a 0e 0a 05 13
Hence, ID #01 (Lian Huo) is learned at level 2, ID #11 (Huo Jian) is learned at level 3, ID #0f (Wan Fu) is learned at level 23… you get the picture.
0x3b8b2-0x3b8cf- Tactic appears in this "slot"
00 00 00 00 00 01 01 01 01 01 02 02 02 02 02
03 03 03 03 03 04 04 05 05 04 05 05 05 04 04
Since the ROM's tactic list is faithful to group Fire, Water, Healing, and Defense tactics, this is straight-forward. It gets interesting in the last two groups.
0x3b8d1-0x3b8ee- Priority level for tactic
01 02 03 04 05 01 02 03 04 05 01 02 03 05 04
03 01 02 05 04 01 03 03 01 02 04 05 02 04 05
Rearrange this or reference it differently. When going through tactic priority, I kept messing it up as I was referring to tactic ID in the "Tactic ID learned at level up" section when I was adjusting the "Priority level for tactic" section… no wonder everything kept getting messed up. Might be good to add an extra reminder that for each of these 3 changes you should refer to that TOP chart, not to the other sets of hex.
