Check it now and it should be updated. bbPress forum isn’t the best and you have to manually run a tool to re-calculate freshness, which I just did. I try to stay on top of it but sometimes forget. I added “Recent Replies” to the right sidebar a while back which helps show if a new post has come.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterWell MiDKnighT, I am done messing around with the old mods and have moved onto Yuan Shao’s Revenge 3.0. In the middle of the Dong Zhuo area – have to say I really enjoy the experience. Was worried it would seem like a new RPG with all the structural changes to the game but it still has the DoaE feel to it.
On that note, I know you have a guide for it already so hope it’s okay but felt like starting a walkthrough for it – Destiny of an Emperor Yuan Shao’s Revenge 3.0 Walkthrough. This is my first legit walkthrough in like 11-12 years maybe? I’m sure I’ll miss some items and stuff on the first run but can add to it later.
Couple things I noticed – one, a typo from the Dong Zhuo messenger after Yuan Shao takes the throne. “Emporer”. I am guessing with the expanded rom, the days of worrying about running out of room in the DoaE dictionary are gone?
Found a Tiger claw in the Guo Tu cave and no one can equip that yet – guessing we’ll get someone soon that can. That cave is really cool, very impressed with the map changes especially in the caves. Totally changes the game. Also with the way the route to Wei Jun Castle opens up and disappears, very cool.
When it comes to equipping items, I am getting the hang of which characters can equip which items. It’s a slight annoyance though when I try to equip something that a given character can’t equip, it unequips their current item.
I’m kind of new to the new stats/warlord profiles. How does POL/VIT/LDR actually do in battle? Guessing VIT goes into how much physical damage they take in battle?

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterWhat amazing times – over 15 years ago when we were just starting to figure out how to mess with Destiny of an Emperor. We were happy just to be able to have them gain soldiers at levels. Didn’t know about taking the billeting flag off so we resorted to killing off Zhang Fei/Guan Yu and playing with a 5 person army.
This mod could be updated easily with the new tools we have just to make some basic upgrades, but this is still a cool challenge actually. Kill off Zhang Fei/Guan Yu/Zhuge Liang so they aren’t used (since they can’t be put in billeting). Can only use the made-up guys who now gain soldiers – Song Yong, Song Ren, Yang Jin, Wang Gui, Zhou Chao and Huo Hu, as well as some others like Chen Deng, Mi Zhe, Guan Ping, Liu Feng, Zhou Cang. I try to leave the latter three out as they are too good imo. Even with Huo Hu jacked up to proper stats, the rest of the crew is rough.
Zhou Chao at 140 strength is like a God compared to the other guys you gotta use.
The game is harder too – James upgraded a lot of the other officers like Jia Xu here.
I had thought that DoaE forces you to put Zhu Ge Liang in your active party before you enter Shu. Actually though if you recruit Zhuge at Gui Yang with a full party, he goes in the billeting and you can continue on. But once you get to Cheng Du, Liu Bei forces you to put Zhuge in the active party. That is fine though because Zhang Fei/Guan Yu go off at this point, so it is easy enough to just kill off Zhuge and have a 5 or 6 person army (not recruiting Guan Xing/Zhang Bao).
Ji Zhou battle isn’t too tough…helps doing the Jing Zhou region first though to acquire some Swords and additional levels. Li Jian can get used on Lu Bu to help big time.
The battle for Cheng Du. Was pretty tough but actually the battle at Fu Shui was the hardest because Fa Zheng has Ji Rou, Fu Bing, and a bunch of other nasty tactics. Side note, I really dislike when Wan Fu replaces Yin Xian – at some point Yin Xian gets obsolete once you have 5000+ soldiers but early-on Wan Fu sucks, it is expensive and only heals one guy. Kinda crappy when you only have 2000-some soldiers, better to be able to use Yin Xian but it adds to the challenge I guess.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterTrying to get tuned up for some of these newer/bigger/badder mods by playing some classic partials. What better one to play than the Jin Xuan mod by my guy DragonAtma.
Progress goes up to about Jing Zhou region – after that it is a few characters in spots but mostly the standard DoaE. This was before map edits were easy; heck even the text editor was separate from the regular editor. So for this mod it is mostly text/characters replaced. Gameplay balance is pretty good.
My favorite part of this game is when you beat the Yellow Scarves and Jin Xuan assumes the throne, and then in Liu Feng’s spot it is a fellow announcing himself as the body-double for Jin Xuan. So the man joins back again.
Lu Bu having a tantrum
Danfu Song – lot of guys like this with a different name but same look/stats as the guy they replaced. Placeholder you might say
My friend Song Ren
Deng Ai and Guan Yu teaming up…except Guan Yu is just Guan Yu in name and look, Leng Bao in stats
Liao Hua the 2nd
Back when if you changed a pre-battle text, it would alter every other time you fought a gate that had that same saying. This is someone talking about Dong Zhou way past his death date
Final battle for China with Cai Mao

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterNo problem, always happy to see some of the originals swing by. Lordyuanshu.com definitely had some lean years; terrible host bogging it down, forum probs, haven’t done a guide in years (main source of content), etc. Forum still isn’t perfect and I kinda miss the OG phpBB version. But managing/upgrading forums is a huge undertaking, though it helps that it’s just a WordPress plugin. Yet I felt really good in 2020 when Junsuijin and I got this site upgraded and on a nicer server. This site still churns out 1000 visitors a day somehow so it is still a bandwidth hog.
I’m in the Facebook “group” for Scholars of Shen Zhou, no one really posts there although someone did post a few months back and James replied saying he’s been looking into fixing stuff. I had heard that a year or two ago also though so who knows. That site has a lot of history to it and was around years before LYS so hope to see it back on track whenever he can find the time. It’s awesome you got VideoLamer back up with some of the originals back posting.
I’m with you on supporting the small forums. Discord and social media action are nice for growing interest in DoaE and convenient but of course I’m a little bit selfish and I want all the action going on the forum.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterThis would be a nasty trick to make a door like that hard to open. I think the most common complaint/problem/area people got stuck on with the original DoaE was freeing Liu Zheng in Fu Shui.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterHowdy – thanks for playing and posting.
Well there is no end to it as it is incomplete, but it sounds like you may have got to where I finished up last. Did you happen to find the Ma Teng castle in the far west? I believe that is the last thing I added to it a year or so ago.
When I made the Dong Zhuo mod I am pretty sure I copied it from the Yuan Shu mod, and I believe the “stop Yuan Shao” dialogue you are seeing at the Nan Yang castle is from that (not anything related to the storyline in the DZ mod).
The large green area with the random encounters, I believe this is an “off map” location that you can’t get back from.
I need to find time to hop into this one again and figure out where I left off. This is probably the last non-patch mod out there.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterNice find – looks like these are different mods in different languages for Destiny of an Emperor?

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterHmm, not sure if I have ever seen those too missing. It took me many years to even find the Trident, I’m not sure I found that until the internet was around actually. There is some armor in Cheng Du that is good for the area that I know I didn’t find until Meteorstrike did his testing to find it. Trident is definitely beastly though. Without that, it made getting the Bow from Wu Ling even more important.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterThis is brilliant, much better than an assembly novice like me trying to figure it out in the code. When moving warps around in early hacking days, my guys were always jacked up and facing weird directions and sometimes the 2nd & 3rd spots were positioned inside mountains. I always thought there was some spot in the code near where the warp spots were that decided the direction the guys were facing/where they were located on the way out.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterGood call Grundy. I recall the Sword in front of Pang Tong in Ling Ling sometimes isn’t there. That’s the only one off-hand that I can recall as missing occasionally, is that the one you were thinking of?
I guess even if it isn’t perfect we still gotta give them credit – it was the late 80’s when they made it and all of our rad DoaE programmers spent countless hours fixing their rare errors anyway.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterGood stuff here. I do recall that anytime Wang Gui was missing, Zhou Chao was too. Makes sense in a way, like the game realizes you’re not interested in these generic warlords so they figure if you skip one you don’t need the others. That said, I almost always recruit Yang Jin in my playthroughs just because up to that point there isn’t much better even if you use him for only a bit. Is that the only requirement for the Wang Gui spot to be there, to recruit Yang Jin? The guide doesn’t really specify, it just gives the code to add to fix the problem.
Oh and you refer to it as “Zhou Cang” on the guide you linked – should change that to Zhou Chao. I don’t think the Zhou Cang spot is ever missing. Gotta love those generic, made-up DoaE guys.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingLord Yuan ShuKeymasterWith Boneduke just focusing on map updates he can do tricky stuff like that. Zeckt, now that you are a member here you have access to all the DoaE mods, just head to this LYS downloads page to find them (have to be logged in for the link to work).
MiDKnighT, I asked it a bit ago but did we ever figure out why Wang Gui/Zhou Chao in the original DoaE are sometimes not in their spots in Luo Yang and Chang An respectively?
