ModeratorI've been going through the sound files and there are actually some sound effects that are unused in the game that sound kind of cool. At any rate, since you've been working on tactic stuff MiDKnighT, any chance we could have a specific sound effect play for each tactic rather than just pulling the success/fail tactic sound?

Quote:Boss fight was pretty tough with tactics such as shock from Yuan Shao, Zhen Ji, and Tian Feng. Died a couple times, but again it’s a big fight. Power Pills are my friend.Awesome Mod! I have just started Chapter 5, so I’ll take notes on that one and a few others and update with a summary later!
Yeah, like I said earlier, the more important battles needed to be tougher and I wanted to prevent people from doing the Jing Zhou conquering first then mauling Yuan Shao. Glad you're enjoying the mod thus far and that the 2 years of work has paid off :finger:

ModeratorQuote:Possible Bug – It was at this point that I noticed that Lu Bu had 2 less AC then everybody else despite being equipped with the same stuff as everyone else.On the way to finish off the Yuan family I visited the cave. Most of the weapons were outdated (Spears and such that were found in the cave’s normal location in Yuan Shu’s territory).
Possible Bug – On the way out I was warped to Yuan Shu’s territory (where the cave was originally at).
The armor thing might have to due with there are two hex codes for some equipment in the game, essentially making two different versions. The armor he may have been equipped with probably came with the alternate version in a treasure chest, but I have no idea what item that would be, also, displayed AC is not necessarily an indicator of actual armor defense value as the actual AC and displayed AC are stored in two completely different places. Essentially, they aren't linked at all if that makes sense.
In regards to weapons, if I let players have access to Bow's too early they would just wreck the Yuan Shao area. I believe that there are Tridents for sale in Bo Hai? I could be wrong.
Quote:Possible Bug – On the way out I was warped to Yuan Shu’s territory (where the cave was originally at). There are different places in the code for exits and entrances. I'll have to fix that.

ModeratorQuote:Possible Bug – Encountered and recruited Liu Ye again while looking for generals in the region after the Yuan Shu battle. So… 2 Liu Ye’s I have.I've had this issue before in Rise of Ieyasu and no one is sure why it occurs. What I did was prevent Liu Ye from being recruited so this way he wont spawn again if the player has him.
Quote:Possible Bug – Yuan Shu mentions Zhang Fei.Fixed that in new version
Quote:Revenge battle was pretty sweet. Jia Xu was my first target to limit his damage and as a result Guo Si and Li Jue killed a couple people with well-timed crits. The castle battles for the rest of the chapter were comparatively much easier (especially compared to Xia Pi and somewhat to Chang’An). I’m sure this is your intention as Yuan Shu was all talk. The random encounters with Liu Ye were challenging (Terror and Shock) but with your TP regeneration in battle were manageable. Wound up recruiting him to get him out of my life. ALMOST replaced Diao Chan with him. Overall this is a short concise chapter. We need these once in a while.
I found with my earlier mod releases that making the game super hard with every fight a super challenging fight
A. Made normally challenging fights non-unique so they weren't particularly MORE interesting in comparison with other battles, just another battle that was impossible.
B. Players did like the reprieve of being able to chug through certain chapters and just being able to "Hulk SMASH" guys a little but, but even too much of that presented the same issue. I actually remember doing a playthrough of the original DOAE going All-Out against every boss and I won almost every time, so it was pretty strategy-lacking.

ModeratorQuote:I think I did encounter a glitch in the cave. Xun Yu and Zhong Yao (along with a couple Rebels) appeared as random encounters 4 times in a row! That IS possible, but definitely not normal. The rebels in their group might have differentiated numbers so they probably weren't identical.
Quote:Diao Chan… She is awesome! Great way to introduce her, and she played a role of a white mage (good old FF) in my party for several chapters! This finally freed up Zhang Liao to open up his can of whoop ass (up until this point he was primarily a support character casting Protect/Haste/Heal etc.) When encountered, I Sent down the traitorous Hou Cheng.yeah, it was a way I felt to not make the party of Lu Bu and Zhang Liao duo too overpowerful, I had to cut out all other support characters, but actually that was probably pretty realistic for Lu Bu's force as well up until Chen Gong.
Quote:The Liu Chan clone was great! …Huo Hu almost made the cut but Chan won out.Liu Chan? and you cut out Huo Hu!? You better not mention that around here as Huo Hu is considered a god around lys forums :P
Quote:Xia Pi… Holy Cow… I understand why you did this… This is his end… but WOW! The no namers in this region are brutal and the castle battle wiped me out. I grinded to level 15 (when I received Recover) and tried again. After a few more attempts I greased out and won. Musou, Blaze… Shudder… Chen Gui did not make the cut.Of all the impossible fights, yeah, I figured this one would make the most sense.
Quote:Possible bug…Zhang Fei was mentioned during the Inn scene. LOL! Lu Bu in chains? I’d like to see them try Wahahahahaha!Okay, now THAT is a bug so I'll change that.
Quote:I imagine you put the fixed troop limit on Chen Gong to prevent shenanigans later (probably too early to have wicked tacticians blazing their way to victory in the next chapter.)Yep, I've found that static-tizing high INT officers troop counts prevents them from becoming a keeping them forever. Lots of mods have issues where you only swap out the dumb guys for stronger ones and keep the super INT guys always so it creates a little more interest in other characters in the game.
Quote:Another bug I caught was facing my daughter in the Zhang Fei battle in Shao's chapter. I imagine it's suppossed to be Liu Bei (which would make the battle tougher…). I'll get to work on my in depth chapter 3 experience in a bit! Wahahahahaha!Ah yes, that is a bug, it's supposed to be Liu Bei.
Edit: New version uploaded w/ text change and Lu Lingqi battle changed to Liu Bei

ModeratorQuote:hm, don't recall what version of RoLB i started with, but i don't recall the difficulty ever being stupid high.BWAHAHAHAHA!
Here are some SS of the original Rise of Lu Bu with fights that people hated. The first is the Hu Lao Gate fight, the second is what you had to fight in Jing Zhou, and the 3rd is when you acquired Lu Bu to your party (Zhuge Liang replacement). In all cases, everyone felt his 1-shot hits were just too much and ridiculous as battles were essentially luck-based battles.
and some pictures of my first photo editing attempts found in Rise of Lu Bu that I spliced together, before I knew how to draw them better >_>, freaky stuff:

ModeratorQuote:You have done an amazing job with this mod! The script is well written, the pacing is good, and most importantly It feels like a Lu Bu game with all the stabbing betrayals. I took notes looking out for bugs and detailing my thoughts as I progressed.Cool. In version 1.0 and 2.0 I still had players starting out with Liu Bei and his gang. In version 3.0 I rewrote the script for chapters 1-5 completely so players actually played as Bad Mr. Bu just like in history (or close to it!) Flames of Wu gave me the know-how on how to manipulate game events and sprites so I'm glad it's at least "believable".
Quote:I did not discover any new bugs.Actually there is a bug that was found by a member @ the-scholars and it was done found by billeting Ding Yuan which technically shouldn't be possible as he is flagged as non-billetable, but at any rate, it messed up his game down the road by making the guy on the throne not appear in order to activate the Zhuge Liang visit quest line which allows access to Shu. I've gotta have MiDKnighT figure out where the non-billeting list can be found.
Quote:(who needs team work when you're LU BU WAHAHA!)Heh, of course
Quote:Tore through the first Yellow Turban/Scarves battles. Then I met blaze at Tiemen pass…. Yikes! 1st time Jue went first and party wiped me. This battle was all about luck. If Jue goes first before I have a chance to get protect… over. After the battle Gao Shun was a great addition (As I continued playing he was my steady eddy for three chapters). The final battle in the chapter was similar. I hate to admit, but I loved the forced party change at the end of the chapter 3:)Indeed. The problem with some battles is that they are either WAY too hard because of a particular tactic and without it, they are WAY too easy. I also had to think down the road, especially with the Yellow Turbans, that you encounter Zhang Jiao 2x and that the second time is probably another level or two later so keeping it still difficult can be a challenge sometimes. I thought Gao Shun would be a great addition and a more 'steady' party member as you said but not
Quote:It would be nice to have access to weapons (like a Jian or two) for Li Su and Zhang Yang before the beatdown outside the cave LOL! The access to clubs (the painful ones, not the fun ones…) in Xuzhou also made the section seem too easy from that point on (cept when Pyroman decided to kirk out)overpowering.Quote:A few things on this. One is that like above, giving a few more weapons early on is tough because I restricted access to specific towns in order to allow the staged plot line where players wouldn't "go around" certain areas so it had to be kept pretty tight early on.
In terms of difficulty, some people here on the LYS forums recall my first 1.0 version of ROLB and everyone claimed it was almost ALL luck and turned into a save-state hacking fest reminiscent of Destiny of an Emperor Cao Cao Edition which was so impossible that there was no gameplaying but just cheat code/save state loading training. If I removed the clubs then I'd have to have someone retest it to see if it was still possible to complete the area WITHOUT tons of level grinding. Balancing the mod takes a LOT of time but playing as Lu Bu I wanted players to also feel like they were trouncing people early on with a progressively harder difficulty after Chapter 3 which technically would have been where Lu Bu met his demise.
Great Job, and a very unique experience for DOAE! I'll post my further experiences if it will help.
Quote:It does and helps me to refine certain gameplay aspects and balancing issues. It;s why I'm up to version 3.0 and people keep playing it as it has grown so much over the past 2 years. Keep em' comin' BWAHAHAHA!

ModeratorWhen using DOAEditor, I was not able to "change" any tactics on the 31-60 tab. Yeah, I could change them but they would automatically revert to the pre-saved version upon exporting. Also, none of the tactics below Life (Raise -> Unnamed Tactics -> Expanded New Tactics) would not even appear in game when I tested it and set their priority highest. I did see you could set tactic priority up to 7 now? That would be helpful.
But yeah, Zeal 2, Mislead 2, Etc. I couldn't get them to even show up in the officer profile in game even with level learned, priority, stat requirement and slot all correct.

ModeratorYeah, many times I've found the same thing, but when IPS 1.2 and 1.3 were revised, I never really got to test them as much as I have done to others in the past. MiDKnighT has been putting out some great stuff but even the best of us miss things at times. I'm sure he'll see these posts and get on the horn ASAP
BTW, welcome to LYS forums!

Moderatoryeah, he's right. I tried it on an un-edited rom and it gives you the gray screen of death after applying both parts of the patch. The rom is expanded to .99 MB so something is missing….
Also, where is the new billeting table stored for marking officers as non-billetable? I flagged Ding Yuan in Rise of Lu Bu as non-billetable BUT as you can see, I can still remove him from the party. This creates a bug down the road in the game where the "Guy who sits on the throne" disappears and makes the game unprogressable.

ModeratorCan't seem to add the new tactics. They aren't being utilized by officers even though they are in the appropriate learned level list and a higher tactic priority. It is like this when using DOAEditor or even manually editing the hex.
For example, I want an officer to use Zeal 2 so I place it learned @ a later level, higher tactic priority and the correct slot. they are still using the previous tactic that is found in the original DOAE tactic set. This seems to be the case from 'Raise' on down through the rest of the tactics.
