ParticipantI'm trying this game out, as I am an ages old WoW veteran who gave the game up long ago. It has an interesting feel to it so far, but I am concerned about how far and extensive it can truly get being free before I will be behind to purchased items.

ParticipantThe problem I see with this mapping (and I might be wrong) is that if we start changing the map, it really must conform within those shaded areas or else the random encounters will occur from other chapters. Is that correct? Are these zones/areas adjustable, so that we can make them adapt in shape and size according to our newly designed map?

ParticipantOn a positive note, even if this exp/gold thing cannot be figured out, perhaps it opens the game up for a much less linear map/story? Think Dragon Warrior 1. You could theoretically go anywhere, but things were a heck of a lot tougher other places. That would certainly be extremely hard to balance, but could be a whole lot of fun!

ParticipantI've actually considered a couple different ones. One that might be interesting is a Sima Yi mod, starting from his coup of Wei and the formation of Jin, and then the campaigns against Wu and the various rebeliions. That would be a very pleasant one to do.

ParticipantLiu Biao mod = sit and do nothing while all the rest of China falls apart around him.
Ma Teng mod = isolate yourselves in the mountains making great troops and children, and then die the minute you plan to actually do anything.
Gongsun Zan mod = White Riders, White Riders, White Riders HOOOOOOO!

ParticipantWhen I am able to get and use a hex editor, perhaps I shall.

ParticipantCao Cao will not be available in the final version, as I have posted so many times. I still don't quite have that event and such working the way I want it to. To get the correct feel for the game, I'd advise going back and doing it without Cao Cao.

ParticipantThe difficulty level defeinately fluctuates throughout the game. It is built more on culminating battles and storyline. I'll likely change Tao Qian to He jin. It is mostly that way as I was trying to fight the overwriting that was being done between the text editor and the officer changer.
The difficulty is overall much more difficult, however I did not want every battle to be hard. There are levels to go through. Culminating battles are all predominently hard, and other areas have their own strengths. For instance, Yuan Shao's area is mostly easy, until you hit JiZhou. Jing Zhou area is sporadic (Liu Biao there), as ChangSha is definately hard, and the AnSha ability makes some other battles pretty hard. All of Shu is difficult due to the high defense of officers there and most of the officers generally being smarter rather than stronger. This makes those battles trickier, especially with some of the long walks between areas. I found I had to go through that area with a heavy strategist party, which made the traveling very difficult.
I do need to make some changes, but a lot of what I was doing was getting the basics done, and adding in flavor. Now I need to go back and fine tune. Personally, I like the difficulty in Chapter 2: it provides a huge wake-up call, and demonstrates the allied front that was put against DZ. And honestly, I've made Chapter 1 much harder than the original game.

ParticipantPOrtraits haven't been all fixed yet. Hopefully you don't have the version with the broken Yuan Shu. I think I have some of those events figured out and how to take care of them in the text editor. If you take out the 'command' line at the end before the event, it seems to not offer the yes-no choice in game.

ParticipantI made it through alright. Keep in mind that making things smaller (in order to increase difficulty) is rarely as fun as making things bigger (still to increase difficulty).

ParticipantAre we talking the old Gameboy FF games?

ParticipantSigh, email it to me again? Lol… I can't get that 4shared thingy to work

ParticipantLol, well, I found an interesting bug. The current version up will need to be changed. Currently, I have the event after defeating Yuan Shu removed. Apparently that event includes creating the bridge and such. There is no progressing through even after defeating Nan Yang. Hmmm, will have to figure that one out.
I didn't test Cao Cao and the gemsword, but I have a save state right at Yang Zhou. So I think I shall go see how that one is working so I can try to work on both of them at once.

Participant
Here is a look at Chang An. Good luck!

ParticipantHmmm, trying to figure out how to attach screenshots.
Woot, figured it out!
